Selling Harry Kane could be palatable but only if this one thing happens

The idea that Harry Kane should be sold is for the birds, he should not and Daniel Levy should rebuild the team around him, however, in the event he is, it could still be a good thing as long as the hierarchy at the club get one thing right.

That one thing is recruitment.

If Kane is sold, it is certain that it will be for a huge amount of money, money that should be re-investing in the squad.

Figures of between £100m and £200m have been mentioned and knowing what Levy is like then it is probably safe to assume that he will demand above the £100m mark.

So, let’s assume £125m is raised and that another £40m or so is raised via other player sales, we could then be looking at a transfer budget in the region of £150m-£200m

Now, that is some serious money in this day and age, it is not Mbappe or Haaland money but it is more than enough to bring in at least four top quality players.

To give you an example of players that were sold in the last summer transfer window for roughly £40m each we could have signed the likes of Leroy Sane, Diogo Jota, Alvaro Morata and Wesley Fofana. Additionally, other players sold in that region include Hakim Ziyech, Achraf Hakimi, Thomas Partey and Mauro Icardi (Via Transfermarkt).

Not all of those named above have been roaring successes and therein lies the risk, however, some clubs have got their recruitment down almost perfectly, Leicester City being a good example.

It is also the case that just throwing money at players is not certain to work, look at what we did with the Gareth Bale money and what Man Utd do on a regular basis.

Get the recruitment right and cashing in on Harry Kane does not need to be an unmitigated disaster for the club, however, get it wrong and the consequences could be with us for years.

Replacing other ballon d’or winners like Messi, Ronaldo, Cruyff, Best…. You can’t replace the best… Kane is pretty much up there with these guys… Irreplaceable.

Lol.. Thing is Maureen wasn’t given the chance to win.. Ryan Mason was preferred… I was no fan of Levy since Jol and Redknapps savage sackings.. But the timing of this one was even more ludicrous.. This and the attempt at the no relegation super league has finished me off… I have no faith in the man whatsoever.

Maureen did the same actually, played with one or two holding midfielders and we often saw Pierre or Sissoko or Tanguy covering full backs and wingers depending how we set up and who we played.. We could have any manager in the world right now, but until we replace half the squad we are not winning anything mate..

Recruitment will only be sorted when Hitchen and everyone else moves on.. Our scouting and recruitment is clearly poor. These lot aren’t suddenly becoming great at their jobs.

A tough one Dilly but I don’t begrudge Modric Bale Walker Carrick moving to get some fulfilment from their limited careers. As a supporter I am rusted on but for the players ENIC is the deadening hand of mediocrity and mismanagement.

Levy is getting desperate by the hour he is offering Brendan Rodgers triple what he earns in Leicester £15mill will Brendan and Spurs board accept that is the question?

This makes me want to cry. This is what I wrote to Daniel Levy last week on why Nagelsmann was critical to his legacy (I explained last year here how he owned Jose in those matches so cut that out) – sorry it is a bit long:

What makes Mr. Nagelmann a once in a generation talent?

  • He never blames players. He does not complain or whine when things don’t go his way. This is the trait of all the world’s best sports leaders.
  • His team is not as talented as Southampton, yet he has competed for league titles and the Champions League in the last two seasons.
  • He was missing his three best players (Upamecano/Laimer/Angelino) against Liverpool and two against Bayern Munich in the last month and was competitive in both matches (and made no complaints pre or post match).
  • He will employ the best system to take advantage of the skills of the players that are healthy and available. In the first half of the 2019/2020 season, they had the best press I have ever seen, they absolutely suffocated opponents. They were then forced to sell their best pressing player in the winter window (Demme). After this, their press did not work anywhere near as well the next two matches, so Mr. Nagelsmann then tried several systems until he found another one that worked best.
  • He is the best tactician I have ever seen at breaking down teams that “park the bus”. If a team plays like Everton and spreads 6 across the back line, covering the back post, he has devised a couple plays where he isolates and attacks a centreback with 3 players (one of the plays is just absolutely brilliant, Kane/Son/Dele would tear teams apart). He is always looking for a way to pull apart a defence and attack a single defender.
  • If a team plays in a 4-4 stack, he will pull them to one side of the pitch, have the opposite side fullback make a back post run and curl a cross over the defenders to the open player. Jose would say this is terrible because if the ball doesn’t clear the defenders, you are badly exposed. But, Mr Nagelsmann has his holding midfielder slide over to cover for the fullback. Jose would then say that isn’t ideal because you have a holding midfielder defending a winger in space. Not with Leipzig. He has trained Adams, Laimer, Mukiele and Haidara to play at holding midfield AND fullback – all these players can cover for a fullback and there is no drop off in defending ability.  Klopp has even adopted this play this season, which makes sense because he has the best crossers in the world and Fabinho or Milner can cover the fullback role well.
  • The future of football is having versatile players that can play multiple positions and swap as needed during play. Pep Guardiolo is the architect for this on the attacking side and I believe Mr. Nagelsmann is leading the way in finding and training players and devising systems to succeed with this on the defensive side.

Toby has not made a mistake this year that has led to a goal. He was absolutely brilliant for Belgium last month (I watched all 3 matches). Toby’s last mistake was the Firminho goal in our 1-0 loss, which Jose crucified him for, even though it was also scored from Kane’s zone – the reason Kane didn’t move is because Pope, Allison, Ederson, pretty much every keeper in the league would have come off their line and easily caught the cross since it was dropping in the 6 yard box.

Toby was good, Lloris is a great shot stopper but he’s always lacked two important skills – distribution and command of the box. Regarding the latter, before City’s goal my 15y son was screaming at the TV: “Somebody’s got to watch Laporte on the back post!” This is Lloris’s job – he’s never been vocal enough for me. If a 15y old kid knows enough to mark Laporte, why doesn’t Sissoko and Dire and co?

VAR is such a horrible sh$tty waste of time and destroyer of football. Lazio v Milan I got over 1.5 goals…Lazio were 1 up, they scored again….VAR 3 minutes later, no goal…..they scored after that…VAR….luckily allowed the goal. It’s just a nightmare. A goal can’t be celebrated in any capacity and you gotta wait 10 minutes before it’s certain it won’t be disallowed. END THIS BOLOX NOW

We do not have the scouting teams, analytical software or director of recruitment in place to effect a professional and successful transfer refurbishment following the sale of HK. Why does any Spurs fan think that if Levy had £150 mill in his hands, he would spend it wisely with the advice of that moron Hichen, presupposing we would receive the amounts of money being bandied about for HK which look very fanciful for a 28yr old with dodgy ankles? The one thing that can be guaranteed is that Levy will fu** it up. Nothing will change until he is replaced. The business model of Enic is an obstruction to success on the pitch and those contributors who always write “be careful what you wish for” must be insane. We can criticise oil rich sheiks, dodgy Russian oligarchs and greedy Yanks but once we started winning something and playing with style again, those complaints would disappear. Regime change is needed.

For all his faults Levy would never sell Harry to a competitor.
So that rules Villa/Everton/*rse out.

In the event Harry is sold, it will be because he no longer believes it’s possible for Spurs to win anything, or ENIC won’t pay him commensurate for a Top 5 player in the world. In either case, we should all be done with Spurs until new ownership is in place. So forget about “plausible returns” and that nonsense.

I think Kane and Son should go and I wish them well. They shouldn’t be wasting their careers at Spurs. They deserve more.

A few years ago I thought that Spurs were almost there, about to win the league. But after, what is it now? Three years of terrible transfers and managers not being backed, the squad is full of nonsense dross and light years away from anything other than mid table.

Levy royally mucked it up. It takes a special kind of incompetence to go from a team with the best defence in the league and the top striker for several seasons running to mid table also rans. I’m fed up with it.

it’s palatable if you invest in the right players was the gist

Replacing Kane, a 10 out of 10 player, with four 9 out of 10 players could even be an improvement in terms of how we play, there’s the possibility
