Scottish boss details what Tottenham will do to deter Newcastle from pursuing their £36M star

By Eddie Razo -

Newcastle United is ready to splash the cash with their new owners backing them this summer, and so rumors are flying with players connected to The Magpies. One player recently linked is Tottenham Hotspur Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

A recent report revealed that Newcastle is ready to spend £30million for Hojbjerg this summer. The 26-year-old is a vital part of the Spurs midfield, but if manager Antonio Conte feels he’s replaceable, perhaps the north London club might listen.

However, former Scottish boss Alex McLeish told Football Insider what Tottenham might do to deter Newcastle from pursuing Hojbjerg.

“I think they’ll bite their hand off,” McLeish said. “Hojbjerg has got a good pedigree.

“However, I felt at Spurs, sometimes when they were going through bad results, he wasn’t at that very top level. There’s a place for everybody somewhere.”

Since arriving from Southampton in 2020, the Denmark international has established himself as one of the better players on the squad. Hojbjerg has appeared in 43 fixtures for Tottenham this season, scoring three goals and four assists.

He’s played most of the time in 2021-22 as a defensive midfielder with stints as a central midfielder. Nonetheless, it would be surprising to see Hojbjerg, especially with Spurs wanting to improve the position.

He’s superb at what he does. Love PEH. We have far bigger issues than getting rid of him.

It would cost the same to replace him. He’s superb. Great attitude and the type of player every top 4 squad needs. We just need to realize it’s an 18+ person game these days. Levy out.

He often has to cover for his teammates mistakes and its not really his fault if he’s caught out of position occasionally. Losing him for 30m would be a joke, he’s a valuable player. It’s Winks who has to make way for another midfielder

I wonder how good PEH could be without 2 clowns as wing backs and Dier behind him…he has worked his nuts off trying to block the opposition as another ball goes from defence straight to the opposition…it’s improved a bit with Romero and Bentacour ..love to see him play with better players around him.

He’s been ok, nothing more, I don’t think he’s as good as some have made out, so maybe he needs a summer off to recharge the batteries, but I wouldn’t want to lose him right now.

T’would be a sad day indeed to lose PEH , he has been an undeniable rock in team/squad since his arrival.
Heart of a Lion and appears to have Tottenham running through his veins , I cant believe he wants to leave or that he be forced out .There may be more artistic players in the Prem but for in your face defensively minded midfielders , name anyone more committed to your team ??
He must be retained , he is without doubt Prem standard and I feel is a Spurs Captain in waiting
Pierre , ignore the s–t occasionally spoken of you , you are Tottenham == C O Y S !!
