One would suspect it would be a nice feeling to be compared to Gareth Bale; a multiple European Cup winner; one of the highest-paid footballers in the world and very probably the best Tottenham player of the last 20 years.
Maybe the first 100 times it would be a flattering comparison; maybe not so much after that, when you’re trying to make your own way in the game.
Speaking to the Spurs website, Ryan Sessegnon admitted that he has grown a little tired of being likened to the Welshman, whose transition from young left-back to dynamic winger the 20-year-old has been tipped to replicate.

The Bale comparisons are lazy in everything but position. I don’t expect Sessegnon to ever have the meteoric rise to world superstar that Bale enjoyed. He will be coached into the player he’ll become – and there is plenty for coaches to work with. Bale was more of a natural phenomenon.
But if journos stop asking Sess this – and ‘what would you say is your best position?’ – then I’m not sure he’ll be getting many requests for interviews.
