Last month, Tottenham Hotspur made a swoop to improve their midfield when adding Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus. The 24-year-old hopes to be a key player for the north London club as they continue revamping the position.
In an interview with Sky Sports, the Uruguay international spoke about fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing in the Premier League. Bentancur adds that watching the league growing up brings the joy of joining Tottenham.
“Playing in the Premier League is something I’ve always wanted to do,” the midfielder stated. “I consider the Premier League to be the best league in the world. It certainly has been a real dream of mine to play in this league.”
“I used to watch English football and the Premier League as a kid growing up. I’m very happy to be here and to arrive at Tottenham; it’s a massive club. Things have been going really well. I’ve had the help of all of my teammates and all the backroom staff, so I’m excited to get going.”
Before completing his £21.5m Deadline Day transfer to the north London club, the midfielder sought advice from two Uruguay national team teammates, Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez, about playing in England.
The two players gave a glowing review of the Premier League, making joining Spurs an easy decision for Bentancur.
“Suarez said it would be a great move for me, and it would help me both professionally and personally. If I needed anything, he was willing to help me out. Edinson Cavani got involved too,” Bentancur said.
“I asked him [about the move], even though he will be an opponent, and he said it was a spectacular league to play in and it would benefit me greatly. They both said what a fantastic league it was.”
Bentancur also stated that Spurs having Antonio Conte as the manager also helped with his decision process. The midfielder played in Italy against Conte, who won the league last year, adding that the Italian tactician can help him improve as a player.
“The fact that [head coach] Antonio Conte was here was a massive factor in helping me make up my decision to join Tottenham, and a big motivation,” Bentancur said.
“I feel that he can dramatically improve me as a player, and I’m looking forward to learning from him big time. His track record is amazing. He’s won lots of titles and has been successful wherever he’s gone.”

We are not a massive club by any stretch.
As a neutral from disliking to hating these teams I would say
Manure & Bindipper are the 2 with the Johnny come lately “money from dodgy regimes” of the Manc Arabs & The Boys That Hiss maybe extending it to 4.
Even our nomad neighbours have more of a claim.
Mate you have joined an average PL team who had some great days a few seasons back but have sunk back to – have a stab at our level – 7th?
Bentancur shows promise. He has energy and seems to already be marshalling players around him. That is a good sign and something sadly missing in our midfield. Kulu I have doubts about. He lacks pace and appears to be a few yards of the pace of the game in the EPL. Maybe Conte can bring him up to speed but if you do not have natural pace to take on and get past players then as an attacking option you are limited in the EPL. As I have stated I believe that the move for these two guys was a panic buy because Levy as usual messed up the deals for Traore and Diaz by lowballing and delaying and then was concerned about Contes reaction if no additions were brought in and how the fans would react.
They were probably trolling him. I do though hope he turns out to be a good singing.
