When Mauricio Pochettino was in charge at Tottenham two camps did develop from my experience. Some thought everything he did was magical while others did not feel he had what it took to get Spurs over the line.
I will freely admit that at times I had a foot in both camps but overall, I felt that he did a remarkable job and that in the end it was the players that let him down.
There were times that I was very frustrated, we should have won silverware, too often we were the better team and came up short and Poch does have to carry some responsibility for that but with a chairman like Daniel Levy, he was always hamstrung.
Not refreshing the squad was criminal and Levy has to take the brunt of criticism for that and I struggle to think of any manager that could have maintained the success that Pochettino had achieved whilever Levy kept his hands in his pockets.
We reached the Champions League final, in my opinion we should have won it on the night, that was a thing of fantasy just a few seasons before and yet there we were, at the top table.
Pochettino did that and he made us title contenders, he did a job better than a hell of a lot of previous managers, he made us competitive again.
Trying to rewrite his history with us, in my opinion, is wrong, he probably did have to be fired but anyone denying that he did a truly remarkable job overall simply lacks class, that is what Arsenal does, we are better than that and should acknowledge what the Argentine did achieve instead of denigrating those achievements.
Just my two pennies worth.
Here we go, more envy. That and distraction tactics.
More logical ramblings from our resident tourist of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
I’ll take that as a yes then? 😂
Poch clearly didn’t want another NoCludo, Clinton Cards or Sissoko through the door. Poch new the players he needed to improve the side but Levy wouldn’t stretch beyond the 7th wage bill of 17th net spend to improve the team…
Well, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Jose’s got his 50m player now though! Although, is he a midfielder or a defende?
Like I say, no signings for 12 months would cause problems for any manager at that level. Which sort of coincides with the drop in form you speak about. He wasn’t allowed to freshen up, Donna Cullen even told us all that Skipp and Amos would be our new signings for that year!
In light of that, the fact we even got to the final was an incredible achievement in itself. Poch deserves a statue! 😂
It’s all very simple for people who don’t coach, manage or play professionally.
Jose also made some slightly baffling subs towards the end of this season, they all do it. Sometimes it’s down to fitness, form, tactics.
I wouldn’t have started Kane in the final either, I’d have brought him on at half time. However, perhaps the other way of looking at it was that as he’d been out for a long time that he might grow into the game and get better as the game went on.
That wasn’t why we lost that game, we lost because Sissoko decided to stick his arm out in the penalty area and Mane decided to flick the ball up at his arm to win a pen, it worked.
Then again, a competent backup for Kane would have helped but let’s leave the pathetic transfer policy out of is shall we? 😂
Poch wouldn’t have won more than me. Doubt I woulda got us to a champions league final though. If I would’ve we wouldn’t have lost🌚
We’ll make up for it. Its a journey. No one taking us for a financial joke anymore. We’re s£rong out here.
Yeah your right facts only . One owner ,plenty mangers 1 tin pot.
Love the appreciation for Mr Pochettino Harry, well said, we are a classier lot than them nomads
🌚
In the reality where Messi joins us for 1 million a week…there’s a f*cking cheese room! #itsinhiscontract
In the reality where Messi joins us for 1 million a week…there’s a f*cking cheese room! #itsinhiscontract
He already has! At the end of the day all managers roll the dice to help massage the ego in pursuit of something happening and having themselves lauded for being a ‘tactical genius’. Or their pride gets the better of them and they stick with a shape or player no matter what…they all do it…they can’t help themselves. They’ll shower in hypocrisy as players get bashed publicly for making one mistake while another favorite stinks up the whole game and doesn’t get a mention…just an early entry into the next team sheet. What would Greavesy say? #itsafunnyoldgame
No cheese room man. 😢
To manage hospitality in the cheese room no doubt
Messi coming. £1 mil a week🌚🌚
Jol ,Harry and poch enic have been the criminals on every occasion but most with poch . The stars were aligned but enic the death star screwed that all up. Yeah poch made plenty of mistakes but is a fairly new manager in difficult situations with Wembley stadium etc ,,guess what enic throwing 70 mil a season it wouldn’t have mattered as we would have 2 decent on 1 world class player improving the squad . I hope things work out for poch and will remember some great football and times. Now we have Maureen we shall see as the season goes on at least he hasn’t got people like pogba to wind him up so feels trually in charge of this squad. As much as I want it I think some are deluded into thinking titles and tin pots are almost a given in the next few seasons . I mean look at who Chelsea are snapping up for a start ,Liverpool and man city are miles beyond us . We are back to the maybe top 4 but probably Europa and the carabo if we play our best starting 11 . The horrid fact is we don’t buy the best players so until those stars align again (when we are all dead) let’s just hope enic aren’t in charge.
Unfortunately he deserved to go. The overall form for the 12 month period, outside of the CL Final was shocking. He lost the squad the moment he said he’d leave Tottenham if they won the final and he was backed. Levy and Poch both said he had the chance to make signings in those windows and he decided against it. The latter could be interpreted in a few ways the more granular you get, but for what ever Poch’s reason refusal to make small changes to the squad in those windows, the combination of form and him having to walk back into a job he’d verbally left, after no one called in the summer to take him, left the position untenable, especially after that shambles against Bayern. It was very sad, but the right thing based on what had transpired. Hope Messi signs for PSG and he gets that call…
“Force? Poch couldn’t “force entry into a fkin dolls house. Frightened of levy.😂
Diet, love it…if only lol. Actually, didn’t United have that 50 million bid rejected, from Mourinho while at United, resulting in Dele roasting him on the team bus in a social media post? Should have sold him before the injuries and terrible form kicked in!
In fairness, it was on the record from both Levy and Poch that during those 2 windows he was offered the opportunity to bring in players and he said no. You could argue either way that Poch was trying to either force Levy’s hand and show what would happen without spending bigger or that he was just too much of a pushover at times. Or that Levy was offering up deadline day doo doo. Mourinho in fairness is demonstrating, ironically in his case, that you don’t have to spend a fortune to make smart changes to bring the best out of your core squad talent. We didn’t have zero fund in those windows and either pride or stupidity prevented the small moves needed to get us over the line for a trophy.
Rest.
Diet was out for ages injured, at what point would he have been sold? Nobody would have wanted Dele or Eriksen sold, particularly your mate the little bald kont…
Is that it? Can tell you’re getting weaker. Rest now.
Levy really has bought your batty with his freebie hasn’t he?
Rightly sacked without being backed? That makes sense…
Poch left my club a broken man. Confidence shot to bits
They’re too big for Levy, his only ambition is getting on the Rich List…
They woulda sold players. Dier dele eriksen probably. After 3 years. Big bucks
Put in the same bracket as Suarez…love to hate…at least back during his Bin Dipper days! But I would give ANYTHING for him to join us on a free and terrorize everyone else. Truly one of the most talented attackers in the game over the last 10 years. #whatarebarcadoing
TOTTENHAM was too big for poch.
Um ok, with what money would they have used to freshen it up with?
Nope. Just wouldn’t have let the squad go stale and continued winning
You’re right, they’d have resigned…
Big up defoe. Yep some bully’s needed yes. Skilful ones🌚
Proved what? That our highest ever Premier League positions over four seasons was some kind of fluke?
Jose will make baffling decisions believe me, all managers do at times. It’s about the bigger picture…
Wilson to me smacks of Defoe…a talent but his scoring never really matches the hype. Don’t get me wrong, Defoe scored some absolute gems, but his place in our scoring charts is built off longevity not seasonal hauls. He barely made it into double figures most seasons in the Prem and would always have a ratio in the range of 10% goals / 90% being in an offside position. If Wilson is being chased because of the homegrown quota, then thank the Lord for Hart and Doherty also qualifying due to his time at Wolves. Let’s keep replacing the soft midgets in our team with huge c*nts who bully the opposition!
We’ll see how Jose gets on if he’s given the same relative budget, it will be interesting. If Jose can win the league this season (he said himself already that we “could”) then it would be the greatest achievement of his career so far.
Although I rather suspect he’ll go all out for the Ropey and we’ll struggle to get top 4….
I loved him to the brim when he was here man, right up until he was rightly sacked (while many on here kissing his loser batty now were slating him
Nope. I’m just real. Pep or Jose in the same situation at spurs wouldn’t have gone 5.5 seasons trophyless
Why do you keep ignoring the glaring fact that he had a sh*tty wage bill and an ever sh***ier transfer budget? Are you thick or what?
Facts undermine everything you spout regarding Poch. He wasn’t perfect but anyone with an opinion like yours about him seriously has something wrong up top… keep going.
Yep🌚
Deeney everytime!
I get your point but that’s harsh. How is making a Champions League final not great? Poch achieved in 5 years of CL what Wenger did in 20 and City will probably spend another Billion before they make a final. He unfortunately deserved to go in the end and should have won a trophy. But the man did an great job under the circumstances, and he will always deserve our respect.
Deeney or Wilson, who’d you chose? (Same age)
I’ve been hoping we’d get that cheeky Deeney bid in and the current signings match-up with that kind of transfer. He’d f*cking LOVE to beat up on Arsenal…but this was pretty obvious really…you just have to ask yourselves “who will Mendes offer/sign for Spurs next from his client list” #staringusrightintheface
“Great things? The trophy cabinet disagrees. Let’s keep it history books shall we. Gets confusing otherwise
That decision left me in no doubt about Poch, and so it proved.
If poch had no history with us and signed now (n€w lan€ l€vy) maybe woulda backed him.
If poch had no history with us and signed now (n€w lan€ l€vy) maybe woulda backed him.
The Whirlwind washing machine🌚
What we are seeing now from Jose and Levy is exactly what we could have done with from Poch. Be pragmatic, make the tough decisions, risk the fans’ ire if you have to. None of us would have liked selling Eriksen but we would have gotten over it pretty quickly with a couple of big signings.
Or playing Son at full back! Mad decision.
Really? Oh thanks for that.
José woulda sold and reshuffled after 3 years.
Poch did great things for us, and I’ll always think of him affectionately but his time came in the end. It was not unfair to be sacked when he was.
Poch’s big failure in my mind was that he wasn’t able to refresh the squad effectively. Levy deserves blame of course but Poch should have done better here. He should have worked within the constraints he had and strengthened the weaker areas in our squad when it was required. We all complain Levy kept his hands in his pockets but I suspect a slightly different narrative here. I think Levy did make some money available but Poch wanted the star players or nothing – he was the one that kept the powder dry. It’s easy with hindsight but what if Poch had sold Erikssen at the point he wouldn’t sign a contract and had 2 years left on his contract? Perhaps we’d get £100m for him at that point? Invest the money and get a couple of great players, strengthen the team. Perhaps we could have signed a player like Grealish or Maddison then to replace him. It was all possible. Poch messed up here.
Take a lesson from Klopp at Liverpool. He sold Coutinho when he had to, got a great price and reinvested the money into a keeper and centre back. That turned out pretty well for them. Selling your best player doesn’t have to be the end of the world if you use the money to get the right players.
HH article is what he’s referring to I guess
Wrong reply
What a good signing that would be! He’s not had a great season but he’d score a few for us I’m sure
👀
In a heart beat. Hate but love the c#nt
Pochettino had us playing great football and also competing for silverware for the duration of his time at Spurs. However the idea that it is Levy’s fault is ridiculous as it wasn’t his fault that Lloris and Alderweireld were dropped from the FA Cup semi-final game against Manchester United or picking an unfit Kane instead of Moura in the Champions League final.
If Pochettino himself had previously hailed Levy as the best Chairman in the league, then why all of a sudden is he the bad guy when Pochettino himself had said that “winning trophies only builds egos”.
The idea that he was always hampered is ridiculous what with the money spent last summer. Pochettino will for me be remembered with fondness in playing football how we like to be entertained, but he was for us the Jimmy White of football.
He was learning on the job a bit with that Champions League run and he said some very strange things.
He lost some of the dressing room, he wasn’t the first great manager to come to the end of his cycle and lose the thread.
It was time to go but 100% the best Spurs manager for twenty plus years, better than Redknapp even.
He shoulda been backed, not sacked. End of conversation.
You have lost me Bruce where is the rewriting – is it the Amazon docu?
Diago Costa? At last a horrible khunt in the squad🌚🌚
