Respected journalist names six Tottenham players that are likely to be sold this summer

By Bruce Grove -

Most of the transfer speculation in the media these days involving Tottenham is about who the club will be signing, however, it is also inevitable that players will depart even though that gets little traction with the press.

Actually, if Harry Kane or Son Heung-min were set to move on then that news would be all over the media but they are not and so there is not so much about who Jose Mourinho will jettison this summer.

Football London’s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold was asked who he believes the club will offload this summer and he named six players that he thinks will be let go.

Gold specifically said, via a Q&A session on Football London,

“I think you’re looking at Rose, CCV, Walker-Peters (which is such a shame), Foyth (again a shame), Vertonghen & Vorm (both expiring, and perhaps a surprise player”

So, Gold names six and opens up a possibility that there could be a seventh surprise sale.

From those six players, there are a couple that I would be sad to see go but in all honesty, none of them would be devastating.

Losing Luka Modric and Gareth Bale were hard ones, losing Kane or Son would be devastating but the named six do not exactly fulfil that criteria.

That said, Tottenham will need squad depth next season, especially if Mourinho is going to make a concerted attempt to win domestic cups and possibly the Europa League and so you have to think that most of those that are sold will be replaced in some form or another.

Foyth definitely a shame and KWP should be given a run in the cups or something, Aurier needed a bit of competition this season.

He’s always on the look out, we supposedly offered Birmingham £1 million for Jude Bellingham, but for some reason they took Borussia Dortmund’s offer of £20 million.

Forgot about that. Even Dier doesn’t count as English.

With money and/or Levy being tight,it might be tough getting in the players Jose wants for his system. But adding to the list I would suggest sending Gedson back and selling Aurier and Lamela because we still need more quality on the bench,it’s not enough as we’ve found out just to have a good first eleven. Also if Jose can’t play him N’Dombele has to go to realise funds.
If Levy is such a great negotiator then he should take a risk in a depressed market, that’s when good traders make their gains by speculating and beating down the struggling businesses. Can he prove he’s as good as people say or will he remain as most of us suspect?

Deadwood won’t bring in any real money, get rid of the deadweight N’Dombele if anyone is genuinely interested and reinvest the whole fee. Plus the rabble above worth about £25m.

Good point.Brighton did it with Ben White,is it,and he got excellent reviews.Could be the making of Foyth especially as the manager is his countryman. Then after that year on loan we will know if he’s up to the task.

boils down to quality…not sure how many out of contract players will push us forward. i am not a scouting expert though.

I’d like to see Foyth go on loan to Leeds for a season where he could play regularly to see if he can cut it at this level for once and for all. I firmly believe there is a good player in there

said i was being generous. That would really hit, basically we may free up a tonne of wages, but look at all the “home grown” quota that goes in that list too.

I don’t think CCV or Foyth need replacing as they barely played. We have Rose covered by Davies and Sessegnon. We can use one of our Academy keepers to give us a third choice goalkeeper. So the only two that actually need replaced are Vertonghen and Walker -Peters. Tanganga could be used to cover Vertonghens absence. I’d argue we are not replacing Walker – Peters, he hardly played, we’re filling a vacancy at right back. If we go with out of contract players then it’s the wages that will be used to attract them. So the exit of six or seven should give us room to manoeuvre.

Not sure of the source but it’s been said they will accept £5 million for Rose.

So we have to “sell to buy” and by my rough guess
Rose = £20m (if we are really lucky, I could see this go as low as £10m or a further loan, we want shot more than any one could want him),
CCV = £5m (really not likely, but doubt we will get more),
Walker-Peters = £5-10m (again, not likely and a real shame, think he is best RB at the club),
Foyth = £5-10m (shame here too, I think there is a personal thing here as this lad was like a son to Poch)
Vertonghen & Vorm = 0

So if all of those go for TOP TOP money we are talking at most £45m, so if Jose wants a DM, a RB and a back up striker, player 7 needs to be at least £80m player to fund 2 players, and likely needs more than £80m as will need to back fill one of the only 2 worth more than that (Kane and Son). i am overly negative, but that comes from Levy’s pre-pandemic form, mixed with words of “tough market” and “sell to buy” and then add to that Jose clearly has the wrong players for his “style”.
