Report: Tottenham’s offer falls short for Porto winger Luis Diaz

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur is trying to improve their forward this January window, and with only a few days left for clubs to make additions, the north London club is looking to swing for the fences.

Sky Sports reports Tottenham is willing to offer £37.6-million upfront for FC Porto forward Luis Diaz, with an additional £8.4-million in performance-related add-ons. However, the proposal falls short of what the Portuguese club wants for the 25-year-old.

Porto wants £50.2-million for the Colombia international, who has scored 16 goals in 26 appearances thus far this season. However, there are no further details as to whether Tottenham will come back with an offer that’s close to what the Dragões are asking for when it comes to Diaz.

Nonetheless, suppose Diaz is someone Tottenham has high on their transfer wish list. In that case, they’ll face some competition as Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol told The Transfer Show that Tottenham is not the only English club interested in Diaz.

Liverpool and Manchester United also eye the forward, who has two and a half years left on his contract with Porto.

Context is key and as the ‘slur’ wasn’t aimed at the Tadeusz’ family, in particular, no foul.

I didn’t intend to offend anyone with autism or who’s child might be autistic. Autism has a wide spectrum of behaviours that are recognised. Saying that someone displays behaviour that might fall within that description of behaviour, is not intended to offend. Neither did I mean that being autistic is ‘bad’, just a reference to a behavioural idiosyncrasy. A bit like saying someone extremely skinny looks like an anorexic. It’s an observation.

However, I understand that it might be taken out of context, and that people would rather not see it arbitrarily used to describe a behaviour. Therefore I apologise if you were either offended or didn’t like it, I will think twice before referring to it again, in that way.

We will make him pay his own air fare and Utd will meet him at he airport as we didn’t want to pay for an executive pick up.

Let not be offensive to those (like myself) who have autism and love football. Just call him shitty team owner, that he is destroying this club, and that he cares more about how he is perceived than actually delivering on what he says he will. He is laying a massive deuce in our spaceship toilet but as long as he gets his nothing will change.

He’s South American, where joint ownership issues are often (and very conveniently in this case) a feature of any transfer deal. Yet miraculously, these players do move around, to clubs that actually intend to conclude the deals…

We’ll end up with some cheap copy of Diaz instead, Levy’s PR wallah’s saying that the deal was too complicated due to ownership issues (Diaz owns a dog who hasn’t got a pet passport).

Conte will walk in the summer regardless, he will have seen what’s happening in this window and realise that there’s very little in it for him apart from the salary.

In fact, if you take the view that appointing Conte was only ever intended just until the summer (with the focus on securing a top 4 place), the whole thing makes a lot more sense anyway.

The video montages the club put together for Bale and Conte’s arrivals were strangely similar…

“Oh, look they’re this big name we can now associate with the club, but it will be too costly to do it long term but let’s milk the PR opportunity anyway.” Totally patronising behaviour towards the fans by the club.

Levy really does see the fans as gullible sheep who can be placated by this continued false hope, he’s been doing it for 23 years now…

This Diaz lad looks incredible. I hope this isn’t a Levy special, where a few days before the deadline we make it look like we are trying to add quality but eventually the deal falls through because our offer was £2.99 short of the asking price.

Spot on. But on a serious note how have we not signed anyone yet? It’s beyond a disgrace. Fans need to stop attending matches so Levy gets what he deserves..

Funny how we can’t find £20m for Traore because we’re allegedly skint and suggest a loan move instead, but we can find £37m to offer for Diaz?
I think that is easily explained by the fact that this is an offer that Levy knows Porto will refuse because the release clause is £50m. In other words it’s an offer that is purely for show, and to try and kid the fans that we are trying to show ambition.
I wonder what would happen if Porto accepted it? I expect Levy would wet his nappy and find multiple reasons why we couldn’t proceed, probably trying to renegotiate a loan deal instead, or knock 10% of the price.
It’s all smoke and mirrors with Levy and his dodgy PR department.

Levy thought he had his little ‘low cost top four’ plan in place under Pochettino, that he could do it magically cheaper than everyone else. After failing to back him and then sacking him, he’s finding out the true realities of what you need to do to try and get in the Champions League;

Get a top manager and back him, something he has never done in the last 23 years and I’m certain he’s hating every moment… 😂

It’s the Levy way pretends to make bids for players way below the asking price, gets Us fans excited then inevitably end up with no one recognisable. Look at Villa signed 2 class players in Coutinho and Digne and now apparently want Bentancur and will probably get him..

Spot on. Paratici is just a bit of window dressing, someone to help dissipate some of the heat and focus away from Levy. When we all know the actual reality of the situation…

Have you heard how Levy doesn’t really wanna let go of Dele just in case he goes to another club and becomes a superstar again?

Talk about having a complex and being delusional.

So it all boils down to Levy, no matter who scouts and recommends the players.

How long has this Traore thing been going on? Almost three weeks? We low balled at 15m and it was rejected, everyone knows his market value is between 25-30m. This will be haggling over small change, meanwhile Conte has less time to get him in and integrate him. I assume Levy will see Royal and Doherty and question the need for Traore, which is why it will not work out long term between the pair of them. Completely different mind sets, one ambitious, the other an accountant with boarder line autism who doesn’t like football.

The Mail is reporting today that Spurs are top of the PL this season………for loss of revenue at home matches.Unsold tickets to the tune of 165K per game are helping to drive that apparently.Expect more non footballing events to be announced by Levy for the summer.
