Report: Tottenham looks to beat out Arsenal to land Man City’s £45M talent

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur needs to upgrade their forward group heading into next season. The north London club can’t afford to lean only on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min if they want to compete in the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Premier League, and UEFA Champions League next season.

As a result, Spurs are likely to be in the market for a forward. The Telegraph reports that Tottenham is set to compete with north London rivals Arsenal to sign Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus.

If Spurs do indeed get into the race for the Brazil international, they could use the fact that they have Champions League football next season to beat out The Gunners.

The information in the report suggests that Arsenal has even spoken to the Brazilian’s agent, though that hasn’t prevented Spurs from trying to make the signing.

This season Jesus scored 13 goals and recorded 12 assists while appearing in 41 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s squad. When it comes to the possible fee, Transfermarkt puts Jesus’ value at £45-million.

I think Conte has maybe had a change of heart on his back 3 – so yes I agree hopefully he’ll be spending on wingbacks but I don’t see a big £40m+ defender coming in.

An attacking mid/striker in one package to give options and cover is ideal – 5 subs next year so he’d get games.

He doesn’t seem the right fit for us we need either a young buck who is coming in thinking he can oust Harry for games or an older hand like Llorente but someone who can move.
Our big spend will be in defence so I cant see it being on a forward.

5 subs next season, maybe less competition for places at Spurs than at City and he can play on the wing and up top if needed. Why would city want to strengthen the team that beat them home and away last season though, can’t see it happening.

The question is can we offer him more games than City, which I think he is looking for in this move.It would seem not, unless Harry wants to severely reduce his workload. That seems unlikely although with a back up expect Conte to rest him whenever possible.

Jesus is a capable and versatile front player with PL experience, which we should be looking for,but I just feel he won’t get his required matches with us.We should have gone for Bowen when we had the chance.

Versatile forward, can play up top on his own, Premier League experience (in a winning squad), reasonably priced at £45m…

…yet still, I have this niggling doubt – is he actually any good, or is he bang average but in a very good team?

£40 million would be decent value, very good rotation option with Kane/Son/Kulu/Moura
