Report: Tottenham in advanced discussions with Everton star for a switch to north London

Tottenham Hotspur is keen on improving their attack this summer to provide some scoring depth behind Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. The north London club will be competing in the UEFA Champions League and looking to end their trophy drought.

According to The Athletic, Spurs are interested in signing Richarlison from Everton this summer. However, the north London club has not made an offer yet for the 25-year-old and will only do so if the price is right.

However, UOL Esporte’s Bruno Andrade reports that Richarlison is in advanced negotiations to switch from Everton to Tottenham. Furthermore, he adds that the striker has already discussed a possible contract with Spurs.

Everton is reportedly looking to secure €60 million (£51 million) for the Brazil international, but the report adds that The Toffees are unlikely to fetch that fee. Transfermarkt puts Richarlison’s value at £45-million.

This past season, Richarlison appeared in 33 fixtures for Everton, where he scored 11 goals and recorded five assists. Since moving to Goodison Park, he has tallied 53 goals in 152 appearances.

Correct, we tried to pinch him under their noses until Liverpool jumped back in, then it was game over.

Well according to Diaz’s father, he was about to sign for us so we should have got it done and Liverpool would have been too late. I bet you Liverpool also offered him more money…

I read somewhere easty, the Athletic maybe, that Liverpool had been in discussion with Diaz for more than 2 years so after Spurs finally made a reasonable offer they just matched it and deal done. So that one doesn’t irk me like the countless others do.

I agree with most of that, however I don’t think Richarlison is good enough to improve us to any significant degree, if at all.

This constant excuse that we can’t sign anyone of top quality because of the status of Kane and Son is a complete crock of sh*t I’m afraid.

Kane flogs himself into the ground every season, also he always has a period of injury every season. We are in the Champions League, there is absolutely no reason why another forward of Kane or Sonny’s level would not fit or be sat on the bench.

The reason why none of the ‘backups’ like Jansen, Loriente, Moura, Bergwjin, Venicius etc have worked out great is because they just haven’t been good enough to get in the side or even good enough to be rotated. Loriente was probably the best in terms of quality but he was right at the end of his career. None of that lot have or will go on to achieve anything significant at the top level after they leave Spurs. So why were they ever good enough? They just weren’t.

Why did the club ‘try to sign’ Diaz? Because they’re selling Kane or Son? Or because he would have completed our strike force perfectly.

This ‘backup for Kane’ narrative is shortsighted drivel and needs to stop. No offence intended of course.

Furthermore, it makes a total mockery of Paratici’s claim that “it’s important to be in the race for important players”. Basically, Liverpool get Diaz from under our nose and we settle with someone from their relegation threatened rivals from across Stanley Park.

Nothing is changing here folks, nothing…

Something about this guy I’m not sure about. He seems to blow hot and cold, we are only in for him because he’s ‘gettable’ from a relegation threatened side. We clearly still are not at the top table when it comes to transfer targets, Levy will try and get him in for under 40m. I say, why not pay and extra 25 m and get a better player from elsewhere who will actually improve the side? I don’t feel that his guy does, but with Moura and Stevie B definitely off, we need our mediocre replacement for those two. Not impressed…

Well, if you play a system with 7 defenders not much left. Would you take on Dybala image contract. Am not talking about who we sign and who we did not sign. He can play by himself, and do you expect both son and Kane, Kulu included to play Sunday then turn around and play during the week. You do not need backups to play in 4 competitions, especially the CL, get players that can function as your first 11. Kane played every possible minute under Conte because we had no one capable to relieve him. I do agree $50M is alot, but we are not going to solve the issue of not bringing someone in and then ask Kane to 90 on weekend and mid week. Not attainable. Easy off the Levy flogging, window is looking promising.

No. Levy unwilling to spend for Dybala and Vinicious etc is what’s kept us without an option. Richarlison is a backup for Sonny who’s also Harry’s backup. Sure he’d be great to add but I think we can do better for 50m and equal for less.

A backup. That is our problem and I do not care if much of Jose antics. Here is something he said, paraphase: why would I want to sign a back up player for Harry Kane. I need someone that can play with or without Harry. Our mentality has kept us without an option for more than 6 years. Richarlison willing to come, I will take him any day. Morata before going to Chelsea, I wanted to go to Spurs, then they told me, I was going to be Kane’s back up. No one is ever good enough for us with all our winnings. We must be doing something right.

Who cares if he wakes up onery. He will be on our side. The young ambitious strikers are not coming to watch Harry on a good or bad play go for minutes undeterred. $50m is over priced so called it a $15M insurance policy for Kane. Proven PL player, big strong and nasty and knows where the goals is. Now with him, Dier and Cuti, a pretty nasty trio on set plays in the box.

50m for a backup striker/winger is demasiado. He can do things on the pitch and yet Everton were still nearly relegated. So look for some type of Levy special “loan to buy” or 25m plus “add ons” or try to peddle Winky that Everton inevitably reject.

So in essence similar fee for Richarlison & Jesus… except the former is likely to cost less in wages… both have their strengths & weaknesses… Jesus is certainly more likeable, where as Richarlison is likely to score more goals..

Reading these posts with interest as I havent really watched him, I recall him at Watford but not so much at Everton but I see his stats are pretty good and (what was that game where it seemed the whole team had downed tools?) he would seem to be the type of player who would shake the others up if they werent giving 100% and as an aside knowing C-L so well he could coach Dier into competing for a header.
Talking of England…….I see we have hit a goal drought – 3 games and 2 goals.

Quite recently I read a decent piece on him from BBC Sport that told his story that gives an insight into the man and player he has become.
I think I can see the logic behind the interest from Paratici, Richarlison would probably make things happen a bit more in the final third, gaining free kicks, making runs and generally making a nuisance of himself in his industrial style.
The fee is too much imo, he’s not a twenty goal a season player but your virtually guaranteed a hundred per cent when he plays although his diving antics are worse than those of Danny Rose, not something to be desired.
Really not sure if he’s the right fit, but just like Saint Maximin he’d be something a bit different but very interesting.

Yes, Zaha still takes the crown for biggest ‘prima donna’ in the league – never known a player make a game ‘all about me’ when not actually playing well like he does

I agree with the majority here. A thoroughly unlikable player (not as unlikable as Zaha mind you!), but undeniably he has genuine talent and an aggressive attitude and to be fair to him he scored 6 goals in his last 9 games for Everton which effectively saved their season. That especially impressed me, he didn’t down tools, or sulk, or play the ‘prima dona’, in spite of playing for a crap team, he worked his socks off and was arguably the main reason they stayed up.

So one can only imagine what he might be able to contribute if he was paired with Son, Kane and/or Kulu. Conte might even consider interchanging him with Kulu and playing Kulu at RWB. Consider the attacking threat of Sonny and Kane, with Richarlison at RW and Perisic and Kulu as the WB’s. What an upgrade over Emerson, Doherty and Reguilon, et al. Now if we can get Winks (or even Bergy) thrown into the trade, for about 25 million, then it’s a great deal.

Richarlison, or someone of his playing profile, is exactly what we need.

The long and short of it is no really good, orthodox 9 is coming to play 2nd fiddle to Kane. What we need is a variety of players who can play 9 if needed, but also play with Kane Think Sonny. We could rest any of the current three for Richarlison. This would go for Rashford too.

That Richarlison is a bit of a s-house to boot is an added bonus

Exactly what I was gonna say. I think his attitude can stink at times but he is the kind of guy that gets stuck in and I think Conte liikes that. Def better than Moura and Berg. And I think he would be direct competition for Kuli but could also play up front and give Harry some much needed rest at times.

He knows the league and is ready to roll and is coming off a solid season playing for a desperately poor side other than himself.

if we can get him for effectively under £50 mill as Winks goes the other way for £15-20 mill then that’s a great deal for us. Everton are a good team to do business with because they’re one of the only PL clubs really bent over that barrel financially.

Any chance of Harry Winks being part of the deal?

Always struck me as a nasty piece of work. Very aggressive, knows the league, works hard, plenty of passion – exactly what we need, I’d take him all day long.

Head and shoulders above all the other “second strikers” we have had over the years.
