The Daily Mail understands that Tottenham will “move quickly” to offer Willian a two-year contract as his future at Chelsea remains unsolved.
The Brazilian is a free agent at the end of the season and has turned down a two-year extension to stay at Stamford Bridge as he wants a three-year deal, according to The Telegraph who also report us as potential suitors.
Chelsea have a policy of only offering one-year contracts to players over 30, but were seemingly willing to make an exception for the 31-year-old winger who seems prepared to push his luck and explore his options in the market.
Signing a player of Willian’s age would also go against Daniel Levy’s usual business model but the chairman may be willing to break the mould to satisfy Jose Mourinho who is a big fan of the South American, whose best period in his seven seasons at Chelsea came during the Special One’s reign.
But why would Willian accept a two-year deal at Spurs if not at Chelsea?
This has to be a major summer of squad turnover at Spurs and not all of the signings are going to be exciting £30m+ buys, if any. We are going to need to look at various types of solutions and Willian would be a money saver.
I’d argue we don’t need another winger unless they would improve the starting XI. I’m not sure Willian would at this stage in his career, but I’d happily swap him for Erik Lamela.
Forget the baggage about him choosing Chelsea ahead of us seven years ago. He’s won two Premier League titles and three other major trophies since then, so try telling him he was wrong.
The standard of player we need for sure.. At 31 he is just a year younger than verts though.. He does rely on pace and legs and is getting older. I would steer clear of willian now.. We desperately need full backs on both flanks. Two centre mids and a striker……. Another winger sums us up. We just bought bergwin. We have lucas son sessy.. Have it levys way then he would play 11 wingers because they are cheaper.. I would take willian on a bosman free transfer, but considering we are a club with crippling debt its about time we sorted our transfer system out.
Make Him Captain.
After the way he embarrassed Levy before,I can see our bald one taking him right up to signing time and then dumping him.Just to teach him a lesson.Fellaini will be up next.
Max% YES please.
As a special offer to Levy, does he come with a free zimmer frame? LOL
