Report: Tottenham among the European sides eyeing Juventus £63-million defender

By Eddie Razo -

This past summer, Tottenham Hotspur took steps to rebuild its backline. The north London club has recently said goodbye to Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld. Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici brought Cristian Romero to usher in a cornerstone for their defense.

However, it seems as though manager Antonio Conte wants to find that player who will anchor the backline for years to come. According to Tuttomercatoweb, Tottenham is the latest club in the running for Juventus’ Matthijs De Ligt.

Juventus sits in fifth place, four points outside of a Champions League spot. However, the Italian media speculates that if the Turin-based club continues to struggle, they could sell the player whose contract expires in 2024.

If Juventus doesn’t see any Champions League money come their way for next season, they could be tempted to sell the 22-year-old, especially if there are questions about whether he will extend his contract past 2024.

Along with Tottenham, other clubs are eyeing De Ligt with FC Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United interested.
