Report: Spurs plan to join AC Milan, Newcastle in pursuit of Lille OSC defender

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur made a couple of moves during the January transfer window. The north London club added Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, filling needs in the forward and midfield group; however, they didn’t address their defense.

Nonetheless, it seems the backline will be a priority for Spurs heading into the summer. According to The Athletic (via MilanNews), Tottenham will be fighting with AC Milan and Newcastle United over Lille OSC defender Sven Botman.

Despite having offers for Botman last month, Lille decided to stand firm and hold onto their defender since they’re in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages.

In a recent interview with Le Parisien (via Fabrizio Romano), Lille President Olivier Létang indicates that they’ll be open to selling Botman should an offer comes that satisfies all parties.

“Sven Botman’s a top player who deserves to play in a club that can win the Champions League. If there’s something which allows everyone to be satisfied, we’ll discuss,” Létang said.

Spurs did land Cristian Romero last summer to begin reshaping their defense, and it seems as though they want to find another central defender to pair with the Argentine.
