Report Identifies Tottenham Defender Seen As Easy Target; Could Clear The Way For Arrival At Spurs

By Joe Fish -

Inter Milan are poised to push ahead with a move for Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Tuttosport understands that Inter have the 33-year-old Belgian and Verona’s Maresh Kumbulla on their shortlist of possible centre-back recruits.

Kumbulla is expected to be coveted by Lazio and Juventus, and has also been linked to Spurs as a potential replacement for Vertonghen by Gazzetta Dello Sport, via Football London.

Ironically, Inter could help clear the way for Kumbulla to come to London as Tuttosport reckon they are currently favouring a swoop for Vertonghen as they see him as an easier target, on a free transfer.

Even if Kumbulla stays in Italy, Vertonghen moving to Inter could still work to our advantage, as we’ve been tipped with a move for their veteran defender Diego Godin. The Mirror first linked us to the 34-year-old in April and the rumour hasn’t gone away.

It is going to be hard to see SuperJan leave, but he may yet do us a favour on the way out.
