Report: How Much Tottenham Could Lose From Bungling Danny Rose Exit

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham would be willing to accept offers as low as £5m to be rid of Danny Rose this summer, reports Football Insider.

The 29-year-old is not expected to play for Spurs again after moving on loan to Newcastle United in January, the club finally succeeding in getting him out of the door 18 months after first trying to sell him.

All being well, Newcastle will take Rose off our hands permanently, and if their prospective new Saudi owners get their way, a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino could be on the cards, as Sky Sports details.

Even with Newcastle’s potential new riches, Spurs are apparently mindful of the uncertain state of the next transfer window and that Rose’s value would have plummeted ever since the start of the season.

Football Insider understands that Spurs valued Rose at £20m when Watford fell short of the asking price last summer, and at £50m a couple of years prior when the left-back was flirting with links to Manchester United.

We need Rose off the books at any price now, but this is another departure that the club has bungled after Christian Eriksen and Victor Wanyama, costing us tens of millions from our pot for a replacement.

Every club overprices their assets. Sporting valued Fernandez over £60m. Utd get him for under £50m. You need a team to come knocking and then look to compromise. I can imagine Levy not budging though and deals falling through. Eriksen was the one to let go before his agent told everyone he was a freebie. That was a huge mistake by Levy. We couldn’t let all the players leave irrespective of losing money though. Alderweireld, Eriksen, Dembele and Rose would have brought in tens of millions but after losing Walker we had to retain them because Levy knew the cupboards were bare to pay for the stadium. What a fine CEO we have!

If Newcastle are in the throws of a takeover I doubt there’ll be any transfers until the deal is signed and they have looked at which staff to retain. £5m is way too cheap for Rose, whether he is 29. He is still one of the country’s best left backs.

Quite right. If he was as shrewd as his much exaggerated reputation, he would be taking advantage of the situation. Given the financial meltdown in Spanish, French and Italian football, this is a glorious opportunity to strengthen the team substantially at half the cost it would have taken to propel us into serial contenders. Instead of seizing the day, we get the usual type of depressing response that the cupboard is bare. He is totally incompetent in football matters.

Oh but your forgetting, he ran the club the way he did/does in order to make sure if there’s a rainy day we would be OK. So it’s fair to say its peeing down, so theoretically we should be in a great position to capitalise on the chaos. Except its all a charade and he’s pocketed the lot

Rose is finished, just like Vertonghen and Dembele,if we get £5m its still £4m profit and an ageing player off the books.

You could add Mousa Dembele to that list as Levy originally valued him at circa 30 mill and Toby who we failed to sell but was valued at circa 75-80 mill. Overpricing assets alongside poor negotiating tactics, and doubling the cost of a project with a twelve month delay would be enough to get most CEOs fired but Captain Bungle sails on regardless. The Express has reported today that there will be no money available in the next transfer window, which if true, will be a nail in Maureen’s coffin and will hardly encourage Kane to stay. Perhaps that’s Captain Bungle’s master plan to get Kane to leave to free up some funds.
