Report: Former Premier League star has no intentions of leaving Serie A amidst Tottenham links

By Mehdi Gokal -

Wojciech Szczesny of Juventus has stated that he does not want to leave the club despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Aston Villa has also been approached about the goalkeeper position.

According to Calciomercato, Szczesny intends to stay at the Turin club for the foreseeable future.

He joined Juventus from Arsenal in July 2017 and quickly established himself as their number one.

Despite making an error in their friendly against Standard Liege on Friday, Juventus do not intend to part ways with Szczesny in the near future. Instead, the team intends to extend the Poland goalkeeper’s contract beyond its current expiration date of 2024.

Szczesny’s contract in Turin runs until June 2024. However, his current terms include an automatic one-year extension if he meets certain criteria. Juventus also intends to exercise their club-held option, regardless of whether the 70-cap star meets the fixed clauses.

Szczesny would be delighted with a new contract, as the €12 million former-Arsenal star has no plans to leave Juventus. Since leaving Arsenal, he has made 190 appearances for the Bianconeri in all competitions. After 181 senior matches, Arsene Wenger sold him.

In an ideal world, Szczesny would finish his career at Juventus, dealing a blow to Tottenham’s transfer interest.

Antonio Conte has begun to look into potential replacements for Hugo Lloris whose form has been on a decline.

According to CalcioMercatoWeb, Tottenham are keen on bringing Szczesny back to the Premier League. Another report from the same outlet also states that the Polish keeper has also been linked with a move to Villa with the Serie A club seemingly interested in Villa’s Argentinian hero Emi Martinez.
