Report: Barcelona is interested in Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon could be returning to Spain this summer as Sport reports that FC Barcelona is interested in the 25-year-old. However, this report might be one of those Spanish rumors that don’t seem possible.

Reguilon came to north London from Real Madrid, so the prospect of a former Los Blancos player joining their eternal rival doesn’t seem plausible. Nonetheless, it is football, and crazier things have happened.

Nonetheless, a potential return to Real Madrid is also on the cards. The Spanish giants have a clause in the full-back’s transfer that could see him move back to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium for €40 million if they wanted to.

Barcelona is keen on upgrading their left-back position, with Alex Grimaldo (Benfica) and Jose Gaya (Valencia) linked. Reguilon is the latest name to surface, with the summer months nearing.

Reguilon has struggled with the north London club this season under manager Antonio Conte, battling with Ryan Sessegnon for a wing-back position. The 25-year-old has made 22 Premier League appearances, scoring twice and assisting three times.

I was really joking about the wag. But I’d like to see Regy with a full season under Conte if that’s even possible here. Conte’s turned Doherty into at least a functional wb, which is borderline miraculous. Let’s see what he can do with Regy before we export him.

You can see the girlfriend on FB even if he leaves. He’s average and trending down.

Absolutely. The majority of our players are toilet but who would come to Spurs if you are a top prospect even let alone an actual top established player? Failure FC is absolutely right. I’m sure some idiot will argue that which keeps Danny the Great in charge.

So in the 1.7 seasons he’s been here Regy’s played for 4 coaches in 4 different systems, all of whom seem to rate him. He’s had covid, had to adapt to a new league and environment and I haven’t heard any complaints from him at all. He also seems to love the club god help him. He’s still only 25 and has a really hot girlfriend so I’m in favor of giving him a little longer rope.

Reliable right wing back;

We got Royal

Central mid box to box or all rounder with a goal in him;

We got Ndumbo

Creative talent to take pressure off Kane (could be a forward or midfielder);

We got Gil

Left central defender to turn Davies into utility backup;

We got Rodon

Winger/forward with pace to replace either Moura or Bergwijn;

We got Moura & Bergwjin

Average at Spurs, apart from Son & Kane, who isn’t? 🤔

Whatever we say about this boy, he looked the part when he arrived. Norwich City aren’t in for him, it’s BARCELONA, that seems to be regaining its mojo. He’ll go there, look decent and win stuff, like most players who leave Spurs with a few years still in the game ahead of them.

He’s been infected with the failure culture at ENIC FC, same as the rest of them….

Lot’s of if’s and but’s about the boss and the squad for next season, however if Reg want’s to go I’d let him.

Xavi has Barca back on the right track. Can’t see him going in for an extremely average left WB. Can’t pass to a teammate anymore it seems.

There were some talks about Perisic. Old, but still decent I reckon. Spinazzola would be great, but unfortunately struggles with injuries. Lazzari would be a realistic target on the right.

Quality wingbacks were the main stay of peak Poch .depends what’s available but neither Reg or Doherty shine …that said I am still coming to terms with the killer passes played by Doherty for Kane to score recently..and he has improved ..I would make replacing Reg as more important than Doherty.

In my opinion both Sess and Doherty are okay as back up, but yes, we need much better WB’s in the first eleven. We missed the boat on Digne twice, and Semedo once. I wonder which players Conte has in mind if he stays. He will definitely make changes in those positions, it’s pretty obvious Reg and Royal are nowhere near good enough

An average player who cannot cross the ball or defend very well. None of our wing backs are good enough. They all need to be replaced.

Unfortunately there are even more pressing areas of the squad before left wing back as Sess and Reggie between them offer an acceptable level of potential.

  1. Reliable right wing back
  2. Central mid box to box or all rounder with a goal in him
  3. Creative talent to take pressure off Kane (could be a forward or midfielder)
  4. Left central defender to turn Davies into utility backup
  5. Winger/forward with pace to replace either Moura or Bergwijn

Do all that and yes, then you look at the left wing back area as a weakness – but that’s a lot of business to do first. For me, outside of silly money, he stays.

They can have Emerson back.

It is beyond doubt that the initial promise of Reggie has dipped . He began with such endeavour and panache and ‘a freedom’ .
He is much more subdued these days and his final pass is below the level he originally played with .
If he left now I believe he would not be missed , especially if replaced with a “proper left back “. Rudiger would be an immense signing , however unlikely that is .
With Sess out and Davies just not mobile enough , its possibly the wrong time to let him go but he is definitely replaceable.
