Win, lose or draw, you never felt like there was much to take out of Mauricio Pochettino’s post-match reaction.
‘This is football,‘ he would shrewdly observe.
‘We need to improve,’ he would insist repeatedly.
‘I am so proud,’ he would say on the good days.
So it was refreshing to see an honest and detailed post-match assessment from Jose Mourinho following last night’s loss to Manchester United.

It was the first defeat of Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur reign but he hammered down on a theme from previous matches – our slow starts.
We were sluggish against Bournemouth, two down inside 19 minutes to Olympiacos and behind to Marcus Rashford’s early strike at Old Trafford.
‘Reactive, and not proactive’, is how the Portuguese described us, admitting we need to be more aggressive and intense from the first whistle.
Check out his full post-match interview below. It is interesting stuff…
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho admits he was infuriated by Spurs’ slow start to the game against Manchester United.

Mourinho won’t sit back and let this happen over and over again. There is faith in him to address problems I didn’t have in Pochettino.
Something to watch out for over the next few games.
And in the meantime, our post-match interviews are worth watching again.
True.
Was at the live showing at the lane. Wasn’t good. (As you know)
You’re right you know. he brought hope and joy to Tottenham. It’s just that 7 we held man. I gotta try shake it off. And the five years of no open top bus.
They never disgusted me. They just weren’t good enough.
I Wasn’t there live. We lost by the way
Get seven put past us? No
So you never watched Santini then.
In the CL final? Levy bought the shame or should I say stadium.
Pool fans asking me my favourite film ALL the time. The wrong’un from the old Vic.
He brought shame to Tottenham
The first manager to make me watch my team in disgust
SEVEN. f him.
Much like the Poch generation here….Oh that’s right.
Yeah I think your right Steve but when he does want players levy will let him down ,he has never properly backed anyone. I can see get the huff and he is not the sort of man to keep his mouth shut and levy will be very bad mouthed. A thing that will please me a little not pleasing is my team will be in a bad way.
My point is there is no point in maureen talking about transfers until there is a window nothing can be done. He has to work with what hes got, for now he has to be happy
Hes just saying that im sure. Confidence is low so talking about transfers on arrival would only have a negative effect.. If he really thinks we are good enough to challenge on all fronts then we in big trouble
The main immediate problem we have is our centre midfield. Weak defensively it puts pressure on our back four. Plus the poor or non existent transition to attack. Giving kane no service whatsoever.. We barely had a clear cut chance all match, we all know this manure team is poor its not keane scholes beckham etc… Ndombele has to be starting…. Some people admire maureens defensive style. Sit back, park that bus, soak up the pressure, then when the ball is turned over hit them hard on the counter…. Give me klopps, peps or pochs style anyday. I much prefer to play with high press, free flow attacking football.. If the other team has the ball then aggresively hunt it down and get it back.. Its MY ball.. Much better to play in a team like that for me. Much better to watch too
Islington will be blue& white within 5 years😂
The Wenger generation can’t cope. Getting all angry 😂😂😂😂
Arsenal are dooooomed in their crappy stadium 😂😂😂😂.
Levy picking results again. His luck is unparalleled.
Levy trusts Jose (maybe) I think he’ll back him.
And that is where your hopes (and mine) come to an end.He might spend a little for show, but like always it will be nowhere near enough.
I wasn’t able to see the game but I read the reviews and saw the goals. The problem for Mourinho is in a way the same one as for Poch in that the team needs substantial strengthening which equates to proper money being spent. You could make the argument that the entire back five need replacing and that only Kane, Son and Alli are worth their places in midfield and attack. Over to our much loved and highly remunerated CEO to make sure that his anchor tenants receive the necessary reinforcements.
Wondering if Foyth could do a job in a holding/defensive mid position behind Tanguay and Lo Celso.
We did improve in the second half. We were awful first half and lucky to go in on level terms; although Dele’s goal was something else. We had more control second half, and whilst we were at risk from the counter attack, we had a few chances to share the points.
Yes, he could have made changes earlier but he’s obviously trying things out, and unlike Poch, I very much doubt that you will see Sissoko and Winks in midfield together again. We all know that Mourinho knows how to build a good team around a strong spine, and I’m very confident he will do this.
I was unable to watch the game. But if that summary of our performance is true then it begs two questions.1.What did he say at half time to get a reaction from the players and why couldn’t they follow instructions.2.Having not improved at all in the second half, what was the reason and why didn’t Mourinho make substitutions much earlier, particularly in the case of the Winks/Sissoko partnership which clearly wasn’t working (by all accounts).
Certainly keeping Lo Celso and N’Dombele on the bench seems to suggest that Mourinho doesn’t fancy them, though it makes no sense not to try them earlier when it was obvious there was a cronic lack of creativity and drive.Eriksen is just not the answer these days.
