Harry Kane has decided to remain at Tottenham for this campaign, dashing Manchester City’s hopes of landing him and boosting Tottenham’s chances of silverware.
Harry Redknapp believes that decision means Spurs can now finish this campaign inside the top four.
They finished the last season in the Europa Conference League places and have qualified for the group stage of the competition.
They had started the 2020/2021 campaign in fine form and where contenders at one point to win the Premier League.
Things quickly unravelled for them and Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho as their manager.
Following another trophyless season, Kane asked the club to sell him in this transfer window.
City was prepared to sign him, but Spurs refused and they have now forced the striker to perform a U-turn and stay at the club.
Former Tottenham boss, Redknapp believes his decision to stay makes them one of the favourites for finishing inside the top four.
When asked whether his former side Spurs could finish in the top four, Redknapp said to TalkSport: “Absolutely. At the start of last season, I looked at their squad and thought, ‘This team’s got a chance of winning it!’
“They were that strong, but they really underachieved badly last year. They’ve started well this year.
“With Dele Alli coming back, you get him on-side, you get him fit – I think the kid is a fantastic talent.
“It’s like having another new player, with Harry staying as well. They’ve made one or two signings as well, so things are looking good for Tottenham.
“Kane staying gives them a real chance again this year.”
Alternatively Sontastic he has a point if you accept that the new signings absent Kane would not be enough to get us fourth and he also mentions the new signings and return to form of Dele as contributing factors. Perhaps he’s not so dumb after all.
Kane was the golden boot winner last season and we finished 7th. Harry must be referring to the additions we have made to the rest of the team as to why we can make top 4. Or old saggy chops is just talking nonsense again.
Kane cannot put a fourth spot place in his trophy cabinet though? His comment that he will stay at the club this summer is an interesting one. He is perhaps thinking that he will only have two years left on his contract next summer and it will be easier to leave. But where will he end up? Will City look to take him next season or will they snap up Haaland? Younger, with more sell-on potential in the future. Could it be Man Utd that Kane looks at? What if they fail to qualify for the CL next season? Or will Kane try and grab £400k per week on a new deal and accept that his club career trophy cabinet may depend on how Nuno and the squad do over the next Levy project timeline?
It’s always possible, no telling if another team have an implosion (like Liverpool having their worst run at home ever last season), so who knows?
So we need to finish above 1 of Red Rags/Manc Arabs/Bindippers/Blue SCUM
hard task but let’s do it
Arrys right. YIDARRRRMY
It would horrify and sicken a few if we did. Be very sweet indeed.
