‘Real progression’ – Hugo Lloris discusses how much the squad has changed since Antion Conte’s arrival

By Eddie Razo -

Heading into the 2021-22 season, Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had one year on his contract with his future with the north London club up in the air. Furthermore, the north London club brought in Pierluigi Gollini on a loan deal from Atalanta to possibly be the replacement.

When Spurs brought in manager Antonio Conte, there was no question that Lloris was the undisputed starter. Furthermore, the Premier League side extended the France international’s contract keeping him as Conte has preferred the veteran over Gollini.

In an interview with Europe 1 (via Foot Mercato), Lloris discussed the details to him extending his deal with Tottenham and the change in the squad since the arrival of Conte in late November.

“I extended a month and a half ago, in a certain logic, in continuity. Things were done fairly quickly with the leaders, with a lot of respect and consideration. It’s been two and a half years that we know ups and downs, irregularity in terms of results,” Lloris said.

“But since the arrival of Conte, we feel a real progression. We have the feeling that we are crossing a plateau. I think we will be ready to get the European places.”

At the start of the season, the north London club struggled out of the gate leading to the sacking of manager Nuno Espírito Santo. Since then, Conte has been able to turn the ship around, and now Spurs are challenging for a top-four spot.
