Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez is set to reject a move to Spartak Moscow, as reported by The Guardian.
The Colombian center-back arrived at Spurs in 2017 for a significant fee, being hailed as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders at that time.
However, during his tenure at the club, Sanchez has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, showing only occasional moments of promise.
Earlier reports suggested that Tottenham had agreed to a £13 million deal with Spartak Moscow for Sanchez.
However, The Athletic has now revealed that the player had reservations about a move to the Russian club, and he is set to decline the opportunity due to concerns about the current situation in the country.
Moreover, The Guardian reports that the decision to accept the bid from Spartak Moscow has ‘raised eyebrows’, as the Premier League discourages its clubs from conducting business with Russian teams during the ongoing conflict.
As Sanchez looks for a fresh start away from Tottenham, he has attracted interest from other clubs, including Turkish club Galatasaray and La Liga side Real Betis.
Before the deal with Spartak Moscow was on the table, negotiations between Tottenham and Real Betis were reportedly in advanced stages, hinting at another possible destination for the Colombian defender.
With Spurs looking to sell the player and the player also keen on a fresh start, a deal with either of the aforementioned teams can be expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile Tottenham are actively seeking defensive reinforcements and have been strongly linked with the likes of Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba. They are also set to make a bid for Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo as per Alasdair Gold.
