Pundit states Spurs might have made a mistake appointing Antonio Conte as manager

By Eddie Razo -

Last summer, Tottenham Hotspur was in search of a manager and appointed Nuno Espírito Santo to be the guy that leads them in this new project. However, the hiring only lasted a couple of months as Spurs would fire the Portuguese tactician.

In their search for a new bench boss, the north London club went with former Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte; however, talkSPORT pundit Andy Goldstein stated that Tottenham was better off appointing Eddie Howe over Conte.

“Do you think [Conte] is the right man for Spurs?” Goldstein said. “You look at Eddie Howe and what he’s done since he came in at Newcastle, since the turn of the season; Newcastle has conceded the least amount of goals in the Premier League.”

“Antonio Conte is used to dealing with heavyweight stars, big-name players … Eddie Howe is used to dealing with a club like Spurs, that need a bit of love.”

Howe at Newcastle has won at the moment five matches of 15, losing five and drawing five, which is good enough to get them out of the relegation zone. Nonetheless, Conte has been able to put Spurs in the conversation for a top-four spot despite only adding two players and seeing four depart during the January window.

Meanwhile, Howe didn’t start seeing results until the club made signings. Newcastle only won one fixture in December, so how much should this elevation be credited to Howe now that they’re distancing themselves from the relegation zone.

But it does show that money spent wisely on players can improve the fortunes of a club, particularly again after today’s results.

It’s almost the 1st of April.

You quote a W/D/L ratio of 5/5/5 and think that explains why Spurs should have signed him?

We have an allowable spend of £200m this year, now from memory that is the largest in the PL so lets see how Tony does in the summer with some big hitters on board.
What do we think 3?

As a footnote please put everyone out of their misery and send Emerson back to Brazil on loan.

Imagine you owned a zoo and all the animals kept getting sick so you hire the best zookeeper. Day after day the zookeeper finds another different problem and tells the world about it until it becomes crystal clear that the zoo owner was responsible for all the problems.

A tragic comedy of Shakespearean level.

Conte is exactly the right manager for Spurs, because he is gradually shining a very public light on the inherent failures of ENIC/Levy as owners of our club.

It will ultimately cost him his job,but these things needed to be aired.

How much has Eddie Howe spent? 100 mill or so in one window…he spent 20 mill on the Burnley striker? No way levy is spending that on a player of his ilk
