Pundit states Manchester United could regret not pursuing Antonio Conte

By Eddie Razo -

Manchester United stood by former Ole Gunnar Solskjær this past summer when they had an opportunity to move on from their manager. Furthermore, they had the chance to hire Antonio Conte, who was unemployed after departing Inter Milan.

Conte took the job with Tottenham Hotspur in November, and the Italian tactician is now at the helm of Spurs’ project. Pundit Paul Scholes stated that The Red Devils missed an opportunity to bring in someone to organize the mess they find themselves in at the moment.

“Manchester United should have the best available out there employed as their manager and they haven’t got that, which I find astonishing. It should be one of the top five managers in the world. Tuchel, Klopp, Guardiola, no chance you can get them. But Antonio Conte? The timing looked ideal,” Scholes said on BT Sport (via Daily Mail

“You’ve seen what he’s done at Tottenham with a squad that is nowhere near as good as United’s. I think United missed a trick with him. I think they could probably still get him from Tottenham. I think he could do something special here.”

Tottenham has begun to see the effect of Conte as the 52-year-old has the north London club fighting for a top-four spot despite not making any additions or subtractions to the squad.

If Manchester United doesn’t get themselves out of this situation, they find themselves in. In that case, they could regret not jumping on the opportunity to hire Conte when he was available, especially if he turns Tottenham into a winning club.

In which case Conte will walk. He’s probably using us as a springboard into the Utd job, but didn’t realise just how much the clown Levy had run the club down. The summer will prove it one way or another.

We can’t even afford to pay for Traore, it’s a loan deal.

So much for all the transfer promises made to Conte.

So the con continues, the line you will be sold is January is difficult, Covid has hit the finances, but just wait until the summer that’s when the big spending will happen.

The cheque is in the post.

I don’t have any evidence but I don’t believe Conte was made any actual promises.

People who believe something must have been promised are buying into the ENIC propaganda.

Little will be spent this month and little next summer. The chairman will do what he has always done which is never enough.

You won’t have to wait 18 months for Conte’s departure,it is more likely to be this summer.By then the Utd. job is still his if he wants it,so no regret on his part.

Of more concern of course is who will follow in his shoes. No self respecting manager of any quality will touch levy with a barge pole, except perhaps to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine.

On a personal level for him I think Conte was on the right track when he turned down Spurs in the summer. Unless he’s been living on the moon over the last few years he must of known what a utter sh#t show the club is. He would have been supported at Utd fully (not just with hollow words a la Levy), and gone on to achieve glory. He also would have had some very good players to manage and any gaps in the squad would have been instantly addressed by the board.
So what made him change his mind? This is the million dollar question. It MUST have been promises from the little conman in chief. I just hope Conte and his agent had the sense to get everything down in writing because Levy is a proven serial liar.
Perhaps he’s been promised a big overhaul and much money to spend in the next summer window?

I think Conte will be regretting not waiting for Man Utd. Rumours are that he really wants the job, why wouldn’t he?
As much as i love my club, Conte would have a better chance of winning silver wear at nearly every other club in the Premier League.

Getting Conte was a real coup and i love having him at the club. His enthusiasm and passion is second to none.

However, if Levy has only just sat down on 10/11th Jan to listen to the evaluation of his manager on their squad, then i think you can safely assume that squad rejuvenation is NOT top of DL’s to do list.

I’ve decided that I’m just gonna sit back and enjoy the Conte 1.5 years. And when he & Paratici are let go and you see them leaving Hotspur Way shaking their heads in disbelief. Just think of how everything DL does, is for the good of the football team.
