Pundit reckons that Man Utd would love to have what Spurs have

By Bruce Grove -

Graeme Souness claims that what Tottenham has in their attack is what Manchester United are looking for and the Red Devils would sell their souls to have such an effective front three.

Tottenham has become one of the strongest teams in the Premier League this season after they recruited well to add the likes of Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius to their team.

The former Liverpool midfielder reckons that Tottenham will get back into the top four with the help of Gareth Bale and their other attacking players.

Souness claims that while Tottenham might not put in a title challenge, the Lilywhites now has a team that can take points off the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

He didn’t think that Bale alone will make that happen, but the Welshman has made their attack much better.

He then added that United would sell their soul to have Spur’s attack.

“After several consecutive seasons of top-four finishes, expectations will have been toned down a little following last season’s sixth-place finish,” Souness told The Times.

“With Bale on board, though, I believe that Spurs can catapult themselves back to a Champions League spot.

“I’m not saying they will be title contenders but they can take points off the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.

“The reason for that is not down to Bale alone but because of the combined potency of their front three.

“Bale, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min — this is an attack that deserves to be bracketed alongside Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino at Liverpool, as well as whoever Barcelona or Real Madrid put out in those forward positions.

“Manchester United would sell their souls to have such an effective strike-force.”

It should come as no surprise to see that the standard of defending has deteriorated in recent seasons. Coaches throughout the land seem to have had a somewhat unhealthy obsession with, whatever “Pep” does must be the way, and blindly follow irrespective of whether their players are capable of playing in such systems. Goalkeepers as an example are not so much shot stoppers ,they have to be multi skilled ball playing sweeper style footballers, who can produce inch perfect passes allover the pitch, yet cannot come off their line to gather a cross . We’re going through a period of forgetting the basics and doing things not all players are comfortable with, which in turn is somewhat to blame for the erratic scorelines we are seeing more of.

Strangely last season after the return it was one of the best performing defences in the league which helped propel them into the CL? Of course ours was just as bad back then, so at least we are consistent!

Hopefully Jose has learned some things from this and might alter his tactics and subs accordingly. That also said, the Upton Park Caravan Club don’t have a game on Thursday night which might have given them an incentive to keep going, since we gave the impression that we were saving ourselves perhaps?

They’re probably envious of our defence too. As bad as theirs but not nearly so expensive.

They can have Sanchez, Winks and Sissoko. I’m sure Levy can cut them a good deal.
