Tottenham have been linked with a move for transfer-listed Arsenal star, Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The Englishman has been told that he can leave the Emirates this summer as the Gunners look to rebuild their team in this transfer window.
The Gunners have set a 20 million pound price tag on his head if any team wants to sign him.
Wolves, Newcastle and Tottenham have been linked with a move for him (Daily Mail), but the rivalry between Spurs and Arsenal makes a move to their north London neighbours seem a crazy idea.
Most fans will probably feel that he will not be joining the Lilywhites because of the bad blood between both clubs.
However, Alan Hutton doesn’t think that Spurs will abandon making a move for him because of the rivalry between them, but because of Arsenal’s asking price.
“I don’t think the rivalry’s as bad as you think nowadays – I think it’s more the fee that’s putting Mourinho off,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“£20million for such a young player is maybe putting him off a little bit. I think he is very versatile, he does tick all the boxes, he can play multiple positions, he’s technically good and he’s got a great engine.
“It’s an area where Tottenham need to go and spend money on, is right-back. Obviously he’s fancied Aurier but too many mistakes for my liking. He isn’t going to help them get to where they want to be.
“I think he (Maitland-Niles) would be a good option but I just probably think the fee’s too big for Tottenham at the moment.”
Hutton is off his head if he does not think the rivalry is as strong as it ever was. The fee is not that bad actually, in fact, sell Serge Aurier and get Maitland-Niles and a profit could be made. The truth is simple, the lad will not sign for Spurs and it can be argued that most Tottenham fans would never accept him.
Yes. It seems that Bruce has become a specialist in these…
Don’t care where he comes from, a couple of decent performances and that’ll be forgotten by Christmas.
Yes, he’s probably £5m overpriced – but I’ve always thought he looks pretty dangerous going forward. The question is, can he defend?
Yet another non story…. next!
Helping them out, I don’t think so.
