Pundit questions why Spurs teenager had to move out of England on loan

By Bruce Grove -

Michael Brown cannot understand why Tottenham teenage star, Ryan Sessegnon had to move out of England on loan.

The 20-year-old has fallen further down the pecking order this season after Spurs landed Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale.

He faced the risk of not playing games this campaign and the Lilywhites decided to make him available for loan.

The priority is for him to join a team that he will be playing regularly for, and Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim won the race for his signature.

Brown, however, seems to think that he would have been better off if he had joined another Premier League team instead.

This is because he will have been developing himself in the English game. He, however, claimed that the Hoffenheim move is good because it will help take the limelight away from him and he can learn a new style of play.

Brown told Football Insider: “I said there would be clubs in for him, I knew there would be – I don’t know why that wasn’t a Premier League club, whether that was choice or they wanted to do something away from England, I’m not sure.

“It’s a good opportunity that. I think possibly it is a good idea in that way that he can go and concentrate. There won’t be as much focus – obviously, there will be from the club you’re at and the league you’re playing in.

“To actually stay away here from his parent club, he might be able to concentrate and learn a different style as well.”

No, what I’m saying is he wouldn’t have signed a player like Gedson and sent Skipp on loan. Is Gedson going to get more game time than Skipp would have? I have no objection to the loan but I’m just saying, other coaches will use younger players more than a manager like Jose…

Good move for him that was. He knows he’s got a future at Tottenham. Games games games, that’s all he needs. He can play

More nonsense. Jose knows young players can learn more on the field of play than on the training pitches. Most when they get to 20 ish know what to do in their positions (the basics) its just a case of practicing doing it. Just like most young chefs know how to chop an onion it takes a fair amount of onions before they can chop them quickly/properly/efficiently without even looking. Jack Clark’s staying coz he’s still very young (he’d have his fingers off) Fk sake. Always trying to put the most decorated manager in the world down. “Coaching ain’t his thing” he’s a bloody coach, its what he does. He knows better than you. “Jose’s not right for Tottenham” yeah right. Put the shovel down man

do you think it would have been better for Skipp’s development to stay and sit on the bench behind hojbjerg, Ndom, LoCelso, Sissoko, Winks etc and get another handful of 10 minute cameos when the game is dead?

I would guess playing time matters, but I don’t really know enough about the day to day so interesting to know if you think training at spurs would be more beneficial than training and playing with norwich?

Going to Germany turned Sancho in to a highly sought after player. Sessegnon had a similar profile to Sancho before the Dortmund move. Sometimes a player needs to step out of the goldfish bowl. If Sessegnon can regain confidence and form in a league that should suit him we will benefit through a higher transfer fee or a ready to go left sided player. If not, we’ll have another Bentaleb and we’ll get £20m for him.

That’s Jose, doesn’t like working with unfinished products, never has… has been a top manager but coaching and development just ain’t his scene. Which is why he’s a bit out of date really.

Don’t want Jose in and then wonder why all the youngsters are loaned out all over the place. Did the same at Chavski….

I thought he shoulda stayed at Tottenham mastering his craft under jose. Jose knows best though. Going abroad will be good for him though. Hopefully he’ll come back a man. Sancho. Look after our boy. God knows the distance between the two clubs. Oh and sessy, learn to deutch sprachen
