Pundit claims Tottenham youngster may have an attitude problem

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham’s Jack Clarke might struggle to secure a temporary move to the Championship this summer because of his attitude, Noel Whelan has suggested.

Spurs signed the youngster from Leeds United last summer and they sent him back to Elland Road on loan for the rest of the season.

He played just once for the Whites and they recalled him and then sent him back out on loan to QPR where he also struggled to get game time.

He has now returned to Tottenham and he is playing for them in their preseason games.

The belief is that he will struggle to get into the Jose Mourinho’s team when the season starts fully and he will likely be sent back out on loan again, but Whelan thinks he might have an attitude problem.

He told Football Insider that teams looking to sign him temporarily will look at his performances at Leeds after being sold and QPR and consider that he might be too expensive to not produce better results.

Asked by Football Insider whether Clarke may struggle to secure another temporary switch, Whelan said: “When you look at your higher end teams they might feel he’s got a point to prove and take that risk.

“It might be a loan until Christmas then maybe take him for the full season.

“I think teams will be reluctant because you’ve got to pay quite a lot of money out for a loan player and that loan player has got to bring something to the party and last year he didn’t.

“So yes, of course teams are going to be sceptical of whether he can find that form that he had at Leeds United before he got sold because he certainly didn’t have it when he came back on loan.

“That is the problem. I don’t think it’s that he doesn’t have the talent, I think it might it be an attitude thing that’s still adjusting because he’s still very young.”
