Projected £83M Loss Caused By COVID-19 Enough To Give Levy Same Old Excuses

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham stands to lose out on £83m worth of income if the 2019-20 Premier League season is cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

That is according to the Daily Mail who have taken their best guess at calculating what scrapping the campaign would do to club’s coffers.

The latest understanding is that clubs are committed to finishing the season but this is a rapidly-changing situation so no scenario should be ruled out.

Sportsmail reports that Spurs would miss out on £41.9m worth of TV rights money, £16.8m in matchday revenue and £24.3m of commercial income.

This is how that compares to the rest of the Premier League…

That loss would not threaten the club’s existence, as £50m might to Burnley, as chairmain Mike Garlick told Sky Sports. But I’m sure it is big enough sum to give Daniel Levy an excuse to reduce transfer activity to a minimum.

We weren’t going to spend much anyway, so at least pay the damn staff.

If clubs do go bust it will be down to the unrealistic percentage of wages paid from revenue gained. Spurs or should I say Levy , will find a way of making up that lost revenue, probably by selling a top player , or gradual increase of ST’s. Watching the news, the tories are spending like there’s no tomorrow after years of Osborne’s austerity measures, I’d like five minutes with that /#>% !

It would be absurd to axe this season. If it was 9 games in fair enough, but it is nearly over. It is the 2020/21 season that should take the hit. Also, everyone is losing from what I see. Spurs will fight another day, some of those smaller clubs may not. That is a shame.

Counterbalanced by some reduction in running costs? I guess that would only have a marginal influence.

Levy already claimed Brexit put us into another period of austerity, yes this seems like yet more wood for that same fire.

Obviously a horrific impact for clubs who’ll be close to ruined by these lost earnings, but this industry has been run as a ‘by the seat of your pants’ financial circus for years and always risked total meltdown. Clubs don’t hold much in the way of reserve funds…

The Mail today is running with an article that claims Levy is pondering using some of the grounds staff at Spurs at his home It’s a small parcel of land called Hertfordshire. With nothing to do he could get the mower out himself.
And he will use his own money to pay them! Are there no bounds to his generosity?
