Potter Plotting Spurs Upset As Takehiro Tomiyasu Deal Looms

By The Boy -

Alan Nixon for Sun Online is a routinely reliable journalist, which these days sadly marks him out from the crowd of kids with press passes and one ear super-glued to a club’s press officer.

Joe Rodon is on Graham Potter’s want list, which would make an uncomfortable suggestion given that the Brighton gaffer was so heavily and so repeatedly linked with the now filled Tottenham hot seat.

Nixon believes that Manchester United’s winger Dan James is also a target, as both men could be potentially eclipsed by incoming transfers at their respective sides. Takehiro Tomiyasu could well push Rodon down the batting order at Tottenham, and Jadon Sancho’s arrival at Old Trafford might well do the same for James.

I take a view that the first Spurs defender out the door at Spurs ought to be Eric Dier, however, it is troubling to imagine who in their right mind would want him. Discarded by England well ahead of the Euros and now well past his prime…

Yeah, good points. Could well have been the setup of the team then, don’t forget he was also operating alongside Dembele who rarely have the ball away and carried so well. Dier’s job was straightforward then, he was decent for England too, but then again it was generally the Spurs fullbacks in the England team back then too

Top 4? Is that a joke? Who of Citeh, Liverpool, Chelsea & the scousers do you think our sqaud is better than? If we achieve Top 6 next season it will be a miracle….with Kane 6th is our limit, without we’re looking at 10th I reckon. I dont see Nuno being there at Easter….

Tomiyasu, Rodon, Andersen either as a back 3, (IF Ebenezer gets the cheque book out & buys them both), or was a 4 with Reguilón/Sessegnon on the left for me.

Reggy/RyanSessy on the left. Aurier/Docherty on the right. Toby and Joe and either Dier/Sanchez/Davies in the centre.. Ideally the last 3 all sold and replaced with one or two upgrades.

Keep Joe all day. He was great in the Euros. He starts for us now for me he has the skill and mentality. He won’t want to go to Brighton already.. If Nuno sets up same as Wolves then he will play 5 defenders. 3 centre backs and 2 wing backs.

I think you’re right. All my memories of “prime” Dier involve him supported by our fine back four of Walker,Rose Jan &Toby and the magnificent Moussa Dembele.

Agree with this except for Ndombele and Lo Celso. I would give them one more season. Not sure Ndombele wants to stay especially if Real Madrid are interested. Lamela needs to go this season I think to get any money back for him but we need some additions to the attacking midfield area.

He’s got the talent, but we see plenty of insanely talented athletes in all sports wash out and never live up to their potential – Ravel Morrison anyone? All those kids in his generation said he was easily the most talented of them. If N’Dom still isn’t fit enough to last 90 on a regular basis, at 24yo, after spending his adult life as a professional athlete, maybe he just doesn’t have it in him. I used to do a fair bit of cycling, to help prepare for my main sport which was more strength oriented. I was, and will always be, a #@% cyclist. No matter how much training I did, my body just wasn’t going to have a high aerobic capacity.

When he first arrived, Dier had decent pace, I remember his first goal from some barnstorming run from RB. Now he seems sluggish, not sure what happened there. Granted, he wasn’t pacey in his best season – playing DM, but was effective. Maybe having the recovery speed of Rose/Walker in the team made up for it and he could focus on breaking up play without getting exposed, knowing one of the fullbacks could bail him out…I don’t know.

Ryan might thrive in a wingback role, possibly a better fit for him (and Reguilon) than fullback, and certainly a better fit for Doherty. If nothing else, it will be interesting to see how Nuno sets this team up, especially if Kane skips town.

Toby is likely to exit to a less demanding league, Dier always has a mistake in him and seems to shirk responsibility for those mistakes, Sanchez hasn’t fulfilled his potential and is ace one day, comedy the next – constantly misreading the flight of long balls. This Japanese lad and Rodon might be the best pairing we’ll have in the squad. It would be nice to have a natural left footed CB in the squad, don’t know that we;ve had one since Vertonghen left. Maybe a back three of Tomiyasu, Rodon, Davies?

Not sure if you on here as a joke after all you are a villa fan? Or just don’t really know anything about football But clubs don’t sell that many players at once , Davies lo celso Ndombele, and docherty not going anywhere, rest sell if can sell and get better

Ndombele and Gio will not leave this summer. Stevie B needs to nail his spot this season or I reckon he’s out next summer. Doesn’t improve us, however let’s see what effect Nuno’s methods have on things.

He’s a positive guy and honest about his work, I wouldn’t give him more than 12 months at this stage. However, I feel he will be competent but with all the issues we now have I see top 4 not on the cards…

I can’t see Joe Rodent leaving. Can imagine that Tanganga might get a loan out this season to play regularly and develop like Skipp did last season.

I tend to agree with HH on the Dier front, not consistent enough in defence. It’s could be either him or Sanchez but I reckon if he’s used the right way he could come good again. Dier just looks out of his depth these days.

Agree all of above other than still think there’s more to come from Lo Celso and Ndombele, plus Lloris still good enough and Davies useful as cover.
Also, definitely NO to selling or loaning Rodon or to loaning Skipp or even Sess as seems to be mooted in media.

Sanchez & Dier shouldn’t pass go or collect £200. Straight out the door. I would’ve added Doherty to make the hat trick but with the arrival of No No he may be able to get a tune out of him like he did at Spurs.

H you are so right in your latest Daily Briefing.Properly run clubs are doing business even though the Euros are on.

Once again this situation we find ourselves in is all down to Levy.We had no manager for 72 days after he had seemingly approached everyone working in the world.Even the new DOF wasn’t officially available until the end of June. The fool beggars belief.

I repeat my opinion that there will be very little if any movement from us in this window.I hope I am proved wrong and they are the right quality.

And yet he was oddly overlooked by Mourinho when IMO both Rodon and Toby were clearly the best centre back pairing at the time!!

Not even sure why there is any discussion regarding Rodon’s Future? He is clearly a class act and much better than any CB we have at present, so why would he not be starting every game, he is not just a young kid any more.

There’s absolutely not a chance that Rodon will leave, in fact I see him as an integral part of the new set up. I’ve been against the Nuno appointment, but there is one thing we will get for him over other candidates, he has live and breathed the Premier League and he will know first hand how abysmal Dier and Sanchez have been .Sanchez I feel has suffered from poor management in the last 2 seasons, Dier, is just not a CB for me.

Following his showing at the Euros I would like to see Rodon given more games. It’s sad but understandable if Toby wants to go.

That leaves us threadbare at the back to say the least, which makes me fear that Dier and Sanchez will be kept by the new manager to try and get more out of them.

In fact I think Nuno will have been told to get a new tune out of the current squad.Get used to the idea of very few if any movers in the window.

We need to keep Rodon and Tommy (if we actually get him that is), they are the future. Dier is the one who needs to go based on recent performances.

Dier , Winks and Sissoko must be offloaded this summer. They are the epitome of the mediocrity that we seem to find acceptable,In fact do a three for one super wrap deal for bin ends if necessary to get them out the door.

In my opinion, from Rodon’s performances at Euro’s, he’ll be wanted at THFC & should get game time.
Sanchez & Dier should both be considered subject to leaving before Rodon & with Alderweireld wanting out, THFC surely need to keep him.

Cabspur

Totally agree, Dier is not good enough in midfield anymore and never good enough as a centre back ,to slow and cant concentrate for 90 mins.
Rodon i think if played regularly will get better and hopefully be at Spurs for a long time.
