Potential Key Figure Luis Campos Has Already Been Approached

By Joe Fish -

Luis Campos is believed to be the missing piece in Jose Mourinho’s ideal new Tottenham regime.

Mourinho has already raided Lille for assistant manager Joao Sacremento and goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos, but Director of Football Campos is the real prize that Spurs want, as The Telegraph reported in December.

Campos has developed a reputation for being the best talent spotter in world football, having helped Monaco sign and then gain huge profits on the likes of Fabinho, Kylian Mbappe and Bernardo Silva.

He has also worked his magic at Lille, fooling Arsenal into spending big money on Nicholas Pepe, while Boubakary Soumare and Victor Osimhen are now viewed as hot property.

Although he didn’t name his suitors, Campos has revealed to Mais Football of Portugal that he has been approached others clubs, but added that leaving Lille was not a foregone conclusion.

“I don’t have a crazy obsession with going to England and leaving this project, which is very special and which I have a great amount of responsibility,” he told Mais Football.

“There have been approaches from other teams…but things are going well and it’d be difficult for me to leave Lille.”

Talent spotting has never been the problem at Tottenham, eg Jack Grealish, the problem is failure to act on recommendations and the desire to go for the cheapest option. If I was Mr Campos and happy at Lille, I’d stay there, rather than be made a fool out of.

The ‘missing piece’ in Levy’s new expectation management strategy more like…

Levy worked out long ago that bringing in so called ‘experts’ with ‘track records’ is an excellent way of deflecting heat from himself and his measly investment in the team.

A top wage for a Director Of Football and a manager is insignificant compared to a player wage bill comparable to anyone else in the top 6 of the league.

It helps with the illusion that he’s trying to ‘compete’, Mitchell had a role but he clearly wasn’t going to stay there to be a stooge, or to merely help Levy’s PR. People like Baldini and this guy will play the game, pick up their salary and tow the line.

When Mitchell left Spurs, where were RB Leipzig? Nowhere special but on an upward curve, a few seasons later they’re knocking us out of the Champions League. Who’s their transfer chief working at this ambitious and progressive club? Paul Mitchell.

I rest my case…

ENIC OUT.

The same applies to any player that Spurs might want to sign. No self respecting player comes to Spurs who wants to win anything. It is only a stepping stone for younger players to move on to better and more successful clubs later in their career. Why on earth would Campos want to work for Levy? In fact, why would anyone want to to work for Levy, except to mow his lawn?

Doesn’t matter how good he is at his job. He has Levy as his boss. Remember when Levy goes into the market looking for Ray Bans he’s likely to come away with Roy Buns.

Only a fool would come and work for Spurs with these owners
