Player liked by Jose Mourinho now on Tottenham’s radar but one thing must be done first

By Bruce Grove -

Football London’s Tottenham reporter Rob Guest claims that Jose Mourinho likes Benfica’s Ruben Dias and may want to move for him, but he has other priorities.

Dias is one of the finest centre-backs in Portugal and Spurs need a new centre back after allowing Jan Vertonghen to leave the club.

Spurs are, however, focusing on landing a new striker, according to Guest, and they will only be able to move for Dias when they offload some of their current players.

Benfica is known as a selling club, but their players are usually placed on a high release clause and that is the case for Dias.

The report claims that he has £80m written into his current deal at the Portuguese side.

Spurs will look to drive the price down if they become serious about landing him, according to Guest, but their priority now is to sign a new striker to provide cover for Harry Kane.

Writing in a Q&A for Football London, Guest said: “Ruben Dias is a player Jose Mourinho is a big fan of but a striker is priority first before looking to sign a centre-back.

“Spurs would need to raise quite a lot of money if they want to sign Dias from Benfica before the deadline.

“He reportedly has an £80m clause in his contract and that will be out of their price range.

“Obviously Spurs would try and drive the price right down if they attempt to move for him, but a new striker is priority first and foremost.”

His pace gets him out of trouble more times than enough, but he seems to struggle with losing sight of the ball mid air and let’s the attacker get on the wrong side of him. Word has it we may still be after a CH better than any currently at the club and it will be interesting who Jose would pair him with.Unless a big offer came in for him I am happy to persevere with him hoping he gets his form back.

Thought he was very good for about a season and a half, not sure what’s happened but I’m sure he’s good enough if coached right.

Sanchez has made mistakes yes, but Dier is a liability at CB. No pace, ball watches and poor positional sense. All of Mourinho’s teams have been built on good defence which makes it all the more puzzling why he’s persevering with Dier.

Basically erratic Sanchez is too quiet, not imposing/ intimidating enough as a CH and being susceptible to the ball over the top frequently exposes his deficiencies!

Sanchez cost £42m,Mourinho was never a fan,he targeted him while manager at Utd in the Europa league final against Ajax to expose his weakness. Not surprised we are linked to Dias, his agent same as Doherty’s is Jose’s best friend Jorge Mendes.

Can’t Jose rejuvenate players?

What’s wrong with Sanchez? He’s young and strong, been out of form but he’s shown how good he can be abd he’s already at the club surely better than Dier at center back?!

Just sell em… is this coaching or just replacing perfectly decent players with ones you favour? Why is he constantly playing Dier as a central defender over a specialist in that position that cost £30m from Ajax?

Strange behaviour…
