That Arsenal lot are rattled. I’ve been watching football for many decades and this is the first time in a long time such high profile Gooners have been so openly clucking ahead of a North London Derby. Martin Keown as we discovered earlier believes that people are running thin on patience with their coach, and now we have Paul Merson chiming in via The Daily Star, seeking to denigrate the integrity of all the 100+ goals that Mourinho has delivered.
I tell you what, Merse, I’d rather watch my players find their form and shooting boots against poor quality opponents than potter about in 10th place with little hope of winning anything this season.
Has Arsenal not played any substandard sides this term, and if they didn’t thump them, then why not? Last Saturday Arsenal drew 1-1 against a Burnley side that Tottenham put 4 past. On December 13th last year, Arsenal lost to Sean Dyche’s side at the Emirates, by a goal to nil.
Arsenal has in fact put 4 past two sides this season, West Brom and Leeds; both of whom are beneath them. None of what Merson says makes sense when one factor in that Arsenal’s Premier League goal difference is +7, and Spurs’ is +18. Maybe his lot need to play sides that are Championship bound more than twice a season?
Tottenham go to town tomorrow and Arsenal could become the Marine of the south.
