“Pathetic journalism” Sky Sports slammed for yet another Harry Kane leaving article

By Bruce Grove -

It is an international break and with that comes a silly period of reporting from journalists, mainly because they have almost no club news to report.

You would expect Sky Sports to keep themselves above the fray when it comes to “transfer rumours” but it seems to some fans that they are not much better than the scummy tabloids that peddle bull all day long.

Basically, Sky Sports have run with the headline “Harry Kane: England and Tottenham striker to decide future after Euros” the problem is that nowhere in the article does it quote Kane or any of his representatives saying any such thing.

He actually said “I’m fully focussed on doing the job on the pitch from now until the end of the summer, and then we’ll see where we go from there.”

Nothing about making any decision on his future, he was simply deflecting speculation that comes up every time he does an interview.

But of course, it is Harry Kane and any words he utters has to mean something, even when it does not.

Here is a sample of the responses to the article after Sky Sports posted it up on Twitter and you can see that some fans are now getting fed up with the constant speculation, much of which is simply made up.

How long has he got left on his contact? Enough to win more than a league cup.

Couldn’t blame his logic if he wants to win things. Won’t happen here bar the odd League Cup (hopefully)

He’s not going to show his hand, when he has a contract to renegotiate in the summer is he?

Maybe i’m being naive, but i can’t see Harry Kane leaving Tottenham without him saying when he’d move on.
He would say that he’ll leave after one more season, or two.

He could have shut down speculation and said he would be staying at Tottenham, but pointedly chose not to. He’s clearly keeping his options open.

I don’t think Sky have read any more into this quote than all the pearl-clutchers did with Bale’s quote the other day.

Yes, that line translates as, ‘ill see in the summer where I will go or if i stay’.

One way or another he will be making a decision in the summer, and that will have to be after the Euros so…..

“and then we’ll see where we go from there” is the line that the journos are picking up on. Kane did not have to throw that line in, he could have stopped short but he didn’t. Leads me to beleive he has an open mind / has not yet comitted (at least mentally) to being with Tottenham next season.
