What constitutes a big six team? It is fair to say that opinions will differ on that, however, for some reason, Tottenham are considered a top six teams by most in the game.
Now, this is purely an opinion piece and so I have no doubt that some will disagree with me on this but a top six side to me is one that can realistically challenge for the title and be competitive in the transfer market.
First and foremost, the top-six is considered to be Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham. I doubt anyone, outside Leicester, would disagree with that.
The big transfer this summer is most likely to be Erling Haaland and who of the top-six can really afford him?
I would suggest just City, United, Chelsea and possibly Liverpool, certainly not Arsenal or Tottenham and who of those top six would he sign for? I would again suggest just those four teams and why?
Simply because only those four are likely to deliver major honours like the Champions League and Premier League.
To me, top-six is a misnomer it really should be just the top-four, I mean, when was the last time the so called top-six actually finished in the top-six places, not often I reckon.
Until Tottenham can realistically win the major honours and compete with their direct rivals for the best players in the world then they cannot really be considered top anything.
Especially when your best players consistently leave in order to win trophies, we can go back decades for evidence of that and the chances are that will be the case this summer once again with either Harry Kane or Son Heung-min very strong possibilities to be heading towards the exit door.
Pride may tell us all that Spurs are a top six team but right now, it really does not look like we are.
Once you see it………. ever more ridiculous events and narratives here and world wide and the sheeple don’t blink.
Unfortunately I think the ENIC business model is in danger of unwinding. A Top 4 finish is highly unlikely, to be honest even Top 6 is probably beyond us. That will potentially see Harry leave, probably closely followed out of the door by Sonny. Yes they will command big transfer fees but how much of that will be made available to the manager. Even if it is all reinvested then I personally don’t have a lot of confidence that it will be spent wisely- our transfer dealings tend to be more miss than hit. A season or two of midtable mediocrity and how many season tickets are going to be sold. Lose some of that matchday revenue and how is the debt being repaid?
We’ll see. London town mate. Haringey council in tottenhams pocket. Football NFL music and what ever else entertainment wise will always be in demand here. Don’t worry.
Back in the 80’s Ron Saunders and Brian Clough both had interesting things to say about the football monopolies – worth a look
Be prepared to have yours Chucked at you. Dough coming in. After we’ve paid our bills money will be going into (invested) in the team. You wait.
ha ha depressingly correct.
White Elephant Lane .
Be prepared to have your Ass handed to you on a plate Tappa , and Utd wont have to use the “Tired” after Thursday Football Excuse.
We have an Unusual Name though ? Surely that counts for something.
I thought that last week until we drew with one of the worst teams in the league .
Cups coming mate. The futures bright. Not even two years in at the new lane mate. We’re on the right track.
Yep. We’ll bounce bac£ man. Money was gonna get spent you know. It was starting to roll in. Big big money dog in this.
We’re not a top 6 team…. We’re a top four team 😉 its not over until the fat lady sings.. Spurs 3 – Manure 2.. Up the Yids 🐓
We need to covid to do one… Sooner the better.
😂 We have to start winning titles mate. I hate the Gooners but they been snatching fa cups.. Give me those titles over 3rd or 4th all day.. Chelsea have won loads this millennium. We need titles. Our trophy cabinet is bare.
Managers will be backed properly from now on though. (We can afford to now) Enhancing their personal property portfolio? So you think ENIC were using THFC money to buy themselves/ENIC Property? Nonsense. The next thing you’ll be saying is ENIC are asset stripping
Oh for god’s sake!!
Like the comparison. Fairly apt.
Mind you, when i started following football in the mid sixties Spurs were one of the richest clubs along with Man Utd and Everton.
Very poorly run, yes, though one manager achieving near miracles took us to the brink but of course wasn’t backed by a chairman and owner too busy enhancing their personal property portfolios!
Apart from Spurs, who have managed just the one runners-up position, the other five members of the so called Big Six have each won at least five league titles in the half century or more that I have followed football. And it’s 13 years now since we last won ANYTHING! Forget the League title or the Champions League, it’s 30 years now since we won the Cup!.How all this translates into our being a member of any Big Six beats me!
Tottenhams average league position in the Premier League up to 2015/16 season: 8th. (Tottenhams average league position in the Premier League up to 2021: 5th).
Aside from Chelsea
No, I just want a change in football where the clubs don’t mug off fans & take them for granted. They don’t need the income from fans, they need the atmosphere. This is football generally, not a Tottenham criticism.
Top six team yes. Biggest club in London
Why would you love that john? Because you hate levy more than you love tottenham?
Nothing will change? things already have changed. (Players on £200k a week. We’ve only just moved in. Daniel. Do your new lane thing.
Its not decades. It last couple of decades. No player should need to leave to win trophies. But a massive club has been very poorly run for 30 odd years. Bad transfer activity. Lack of mental strength. Poor team building. Most fans can see it , even Burks didnt buy centre back & midfield hardnan required. Its not easy but its not as hard as we make it
Levy is like some fantasist who owns a Caravan with brick skirts at Jaywick and is advertising it as a “detached bungalow by the glorious Essex coast”. He’s deluded.
Purely on the basis of the stadium and that CL final I think.
I’d love it, just love it, if every premier league club only received 25000 season ticket applications.
City chucked one for the team then….so many ‘coicindences’, all week they’ve been talking of Alexander Arnold and how he may miss out on the England squad, then he happens to score the winner today. He’s not missing out on the England squad, never was, just like Liverpool were never finishing outside top 4. Another day on the stage.
Regrettably, you are 100% spot on!
Take out the financial doping, the sports washing, the manipulation of FFP and you’d have a very different top six.
Sadly that’s cloud cuckoo land and this is the real world. I wonder when the last time the League was won square and fair. The trophies have always been the play things of the rich even before the Premier League.
United had a wealthy family backing them in the fifties and sixties. The Moores family of Football Pools fame were big investors in Liverpool and Everton. Every town and city probably had the same.
According to ENIC and Levy’s season ticket prices we must be a top four side and actually an EPL title chasing and Champions League winner contender to boot. This is the ENIC paradox. World class facilities, second class football team. ENIC’s business model is to suck the highest possible ticket revenues from the wallets of the supporters whilst investing the least amount of money possible to justify the selling of the dream of success. That is why we can only ever hold a sprinkling of world class players at any one time and we end up having to sell them because they can see the mirage behind the spin after so many broken promises. Nothing will change at THFC until ENIC leave and take the little emperor Daniel Levy with them. Until then just more groundhog days and false prophets talking about “different projects” and ” different philosophies”
