Opinion: Combative Danny Rose Really Not Helping Himself Or Spurs Any More

By The Boy -

Danny Rose was a fan favourite. There was a time when the sight of he and Kyle Walker bombing up the wings became a defining sight when Spurs were at their best in 2017, under Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure. Whilst neither player never fully ironed out the ability to make the odd daft mistake, the pair were not just exciting to watch, but comprised 50% of the division’s best back-four.

The catalyst for the self destructive behaviour was undoubtedly the departure of Walker to Manchester City. The Harry Hotspur blog at the time heard from a source to the club that Rose had felt left behind. The peak of the discontent was ‘that’ interview with The Sun.

This chat with journalist Dave Kidd was labelled ‘explosive’, but in truth, it was bewildering more than anything. In a nutshell, the former Leeds boy said he wanted to play “up north” and that he wanted “to win things”.

Clearly there was a significant communication issue within the club, that saw a senior player would feel compelled to ‘open his heart’ across the back page of a national newspaper.

The arrival of Mourinho at Tottenham didn’t lessen Rose’s blunt approach to his situation. In December 2109, when asked if he had spoken to José about his prospects at Spurs, the reply was cold, “I’ve never had a conversation with him and I don’t see why I need to”.

This combative attitude didn’t bode well, and sure enough, The Daily Mail have now broken a story of training ground bust up between Rose and the gaffer.

Who know what the future holds for Danny? Maybe everything we read has been horribly distorted, let’s hope so for the now 29-year-old’s sake, because the discord in these articles isn’t something that many coaches would want in their dressing rooms.

Yes, he shouldn’t have leaked, yes he should leave. Why didn’t he leave when he was starring for us and England’s full back? Because Levy did to him what he did to Eriksen.ie priced him out of a move. Are his comments “google search”, focus on long ball etc accurate? Shoot the messenger, ignore the relevance or detail?

The only unrest I have heard about is from the troublemaker Rose. The sooner he’s gone the better.

Basically talking about Mourinho’s poor man management which included offloading the above plus Tanguay and rumours of squad unrest re training and tactics.

Wasn’t aware that De Bruyne had an attitude problem like Edwards and Rose. Pogba I know nothing about.

Eriksen is reportedly prepared to forego 2 mill in bonus payments to help his move which tells you everything you need to know about getting away from Levy.

Isn’t this part of the Levy smoke and mirrors act? We are always linked with big names in windows to keep some happy, fool others and piss off the rest of us.

Just as Mourinho did with De Bruyne and Pogba?

It looks like Poch was not a man manager, hence the Marcus Edwards fiasco. A good man manager would have sorted Edwards out.

Danny boy has heart and passion. This is when managers need good man management. Hard to keep everyone happy… Much prefer players like rose, over wet fishies like eriksen…. Yesterday it was slimani 😫 , today the media are back to bale and dybala 🙈 if we dont get a decent striker in then its no europe altogether next season.. That could be a blessing in disguise, and also a kick up the backside to the lads who will be staying.

I await some spin from The Athletic around a) man to man chat that was blown out of all proportion and b) no issues nor has Danny ever had any with Jose. It’s obvious that he’s briefing the journos there, hence the headline about ‘being fit to play and perplexed at being over-looked’.

He’s too honest for his own good & hasn’t got the common sense to keep his mouth shut. He’ll be lucky to get anyone to sign him when his contract expires – no decent manager will want his disruptive influence in the dressing room.
His ‘I’ve had a hard life with family members dying & I’ve had mental health issues’ line isn’t going to be appealing to non-league, let alone the EPL. If he’s struggling with life now, he’s in for a shock when he retires.
Seeing as we only paid 1.5m for him, get him out the door on a free. Same with Eriksen, get back as much of the 11m outlay as we can & get rid.
Unfortunately, the whole team needs a revamp. Jose has won something with every club he’s been at but I feel THFC will break him.

Too true. Probably needed more guidance from his agent to get away from what’s evolving at Spurs.

Normally Rose would be out the door but normal doesn’t apply to Spurs. The fact that he has been played and looked awful, not totally his fault because of injuries and lack of match fitness shows how dysfunctional the club is. He will be used again showing up the empty cupboard of our bench. As I have said before, kudos to Kyle Walker the first player to see through the con job of jam tomorrow. Danny rumbled the “project” too, but would have done better to keep his thoughts to himself at least until he got his dream move.
