One type of transfer deal that Tottenham are unlikely to complete

By Bruce Grove -

There are many rumours flying around at the moment involving Tottenham, we report most of them on here, however, there is one type of transfer that is very unlikely to happen and that is the swap deal.

It is rare that Tottenham ever do swap deals, there are many reasons for this, not least Daniel Levy tending to over value Spurs players while trying to drive the price down on any potential recruits.

Agents are never too happy to do swap deals, they cannot squeeze out as much money as possible when a transfer fee is not included, though they do find their ways of pocketing a fair whack.

Just today I read a piece in the Daily Express with the headline Tottenham ‘prefer to swap one or two players with Wolves’ for Matt Doherty transfer. Naturally they did not name the two players that would have a combined value of £15 million.

It is never easy to sort out the bull from credible speculation but when a tabloid goes with a rumour declaring an unlikely event is to take place without naming any individuals it is safe to ignore that particular piece of gossip.

Tottenham will be doing more business in this transfer window and players will come and go but one thing you can be fairly confident about and that is none of them will involve any sort of swap deal.

Values are often disclosed, often not too, and everyone surely gets paid regardless. 🤔

Except the values are disclosed and everyone gets paid (agents and other hangers on, etc)

Which is what a swap deal is.

They were all banging on about kwp plus some money being swapped for pierre…. They were both bought for their respective prices … But same thing happens in swap deals surely the players valuations are added up and any more money gets added on… If players go both ways its pretty much a swap deal..

Could we swap a few old Gareth bale shirts and a stadium roof top walk for skriniar. Would complete the defence.

The closest to a swap you see is the two deals we had with the Saints being completed at almost the same time – one in, one out.

A similar amount of money going in each direction.
