Nuno Santo previously came close to signing Emerson before finally landing him for Tottenham

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has just secured the signing of Emerson Royal from Barcelona in one of the high profile transfers of deadline day.

The Lilywhites have spent much of this transfer window looking to bolster their table-topping squad.

One spot they always had problems with is their right-back spot, with Serge Aurier failing to perform and Matt Doherty flopping since he joined them.

Academy graduate, Japhet Tanganga has got the nod to play there in this campaign, but in Emerson they now have an accomplished option for that position.

Football Insider reveals that this is not the first time that Nuno Espirito Santo has had the chance to work with him.

They claim Emerson was offered to him two times before now, while he was the manager of Wolves.

He turned down the chance to sign him on one occasion and also chose Nelson Semedo over the Brazilian on the other occasion.

Emerson spent the last two seasons on loan at Real Betis who had co-signed him with Barcelona.

The Catalans secured the total rights to his signature this summer before moving him on to Spurs.

He will hope to deliver better performances than that of Aurier and Doherty when he starts playing.
