Additional factors to be considered here are that this is not about lump sums leaving one bank account and hitting another this week. Serge Aurier’s £70,000 wages have been removed from the salary bill, which is worth some £3.6m per annum. Cameron Carter Vickers’ loan to Celtic ought to also lessen the wage bill, although that comparatively small figure doesn’t appear to be in the public domain.
Pape won’t appear until next season, Gollini won’t be a Premier League starter, and unless the COVID restrictions are radically amended then the laughing boy Romero is likely to miss most of our games until approximately Christmas. Bryan Gil’s (who is 20) future as a starting XI player remains to be seen. Emerson Royal looks like a fascinating prospect as he was a regular starter for Real Betis.
As far as the squad is concerned, the midfield is vulnerable to injury. If Skipp or Hojbjerg were to pick up an injury, then we are staring at Harry Winks again.
There is still no backup striker to Harry Kane, whose future beyond next January looks far from clear. In his statement, he specifically said he was staying for the summer.

Lucas as striker……pass the marching powder chap
I would rather of had Benitez in than Nuno… Everton imho have a more balanced sqaud than us, and west ham & Leceister are coming off great seasons… lets see where the top7 of last season are this season at Xmas..
The next time you are here in London let me know. My mum always has a nice room going (in Tottenham) friend prices man.
Don’t worry I’ll look after ya.
Blessup Danny Rose. My guy
Thfc are a property company now? Don’t property companies let and sell property? What we selling/letting then?
West ham Leicester and Everton? Yep top top teams 😂
Amazed if nuno lasts the season?
What is she then?
Grow up and welcome to the real world
The squad isnt better ,far from it. Goals lost from lamela ,bale and vinicius. Where will those goals just magically appear from ? Bale and Carlos offered us something different if we needed to change formation. Son isnt a CF and was never a CF. You play to his strengths. You just making excuses for Levy. The frustration that fans have isnt from this window and is boiling from years and years. When you accept things for how they are they become normal,my friend ,what Enic is doing to spurs isnt normal. In years gone by it would of been called stealing or embezzlement
Nonsense. If only you knew how many people (in the ting) laugh at this comment 😂
5th would represent an excellent season imho… I personally think West Ham, Everton & possibly Leceister will all finish above us…. obviously I hope Im proved wrong…infact I’d be amazed if Nuno lasts the season…. Levy is like a mini Abramovich without fully backing his managers.
At least Lamela tried, and had heart…which is more than some of the others displayed.
We all saw games like the Arsenal one where his lack of work rate really cost us… if you believe overall taking into account salary, tackling/work rate & goals he was worth it then fair enough… I am not one of those people and even if he had been available on another loan deal….I dont think Levy would have gone for it.
I politely ask why you were so happy when we signed Aurier and were so supportive of Jose? Oh and also why you block people for rightfully correcting you on inane matters?
You talking bout me or the blog 😂
For a non trier to have the best goals per minute in the premier league is a pretty good achievement. He’s not the player he was when he left us but he is still better than nearly all the players he shared a dressing room with last year.
Say we had got an acceptable offer for Kane would you have trusted levy not to
trouser the money because of covid
buy quality players or just cheap Mr byrite tat
5th is about right.
Far happier to watch you keep stumbling…
Spoken like a petulant dictator. Bet I know what you’re gonna say next.
And where is Mr Byrite now 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏻♂️
Another new manager, even a new a DOF…. Same ol transfer window.
Surely even the most dewy eyed Levy fan can see the problem here…. 🤷🏻♂️
Exactly! Too few understand his priorities despite another likely year of football mediocrity.
The trouble is that he’s not running a football club, he’s running a property business with an anchor tenant.
He lacks the work rate required in the league, and is so 1 footed marking him or nullufying his threat is so easy he may as well not be there…
Saw ’em both yesterday dahn the pub…..
It sums up the club when have more pitches in the new destination 2 than we have strikers 1.
Kane is going to be run into the ground again.
The Thfc transfer strategy is similar to the one that made Mr Byrite the retailing giant it was. Get rid of old stock before we can buy new, a strategy followed by the giants of the game.
I wouldn’t trust him to run a bath!!
Couldn’t agree more. Levy is clueless and spineless. He’s unfit to run a football club.
I think it was more the case no one was interested in either of them, so they are still here. If they have a good season their value may go up.
Also if Man City & Wolves had their shooting boots on we wouldn’t be top of the league, I’ll enjoy it while it’s lasts.
Let’s see how they fair against Lukaku later this month
lets face it…we should’ve sold Kane…Levy is hanging on for dear life as he knows he can’t be replaced and doesn’t have the balls to get 3 or even 2 world class players in with the money….we will now rely on Kane again to score all our goals…….
The fact Traore could cover Son OR Kane was the only reason I suddenly started warming to that deal – we look really fragile in attack.
Sorry, slight miscalculation, his annual salary was £3,360,000.
Can you really see us finishing above West Ham, Leceister & Everton? I think if we finished 5th it would be an achievement….
Bale never stretched himself last season as he wanted to play in the Euros…& didn’t want to risk injury. At the moment Wales haven’t qualified for the World cup, and so hes probably trying harder to improve his fitness, plus the spanish league isnt as physically demanding as ours
I’ve just seen a report that Aurier cost the club £37.5 mill. This was made up of the £23 mill fee to PSG and his salary of £70,000 per week on a four year deal, equivalent to £3,600,000 in total wages.
Good to read your optimism, I believe we can do better than last season based purely on the mindset of the new squad which suffered under Mourinho with his appalling negativity around the place. Would have liked another striker irrespective of the Kane saga but here we are, I hope for a good season that’s all.
Not anymore !
And clueless fans sang Danny’s name at Watford but complain about the cost of match tickets.
Bale is back playing and scoring at RM, I’m sure his workrate is good enough for them.
His attitude stinks and I cannot see much improvement in him, his overall game is not good enough considering the talent he supposedly has.
Bale was such a disaster last season, he didn’t play that many games and the manager didn’t want him, yet despite that he banged in sixteen goals, I look forward to seeing if anyone is is going to get that many apart from Kane and Sonny… well hopefully that is !
I would like to think that my analysis of our transfer business is reasonably unbiased and I only write what I see. I freely admit that I have no time for Enic and Levy but one can support a club without liking the owners, Utd , West Ham and Arsenal’s supporters all loathe their owners. Levy’s track record speaks for itself, one trophy in 22 years and mistakes in recruitment, management and DoFs too numerous to mention. THFC’s priority is property investment and not success on the football pitch. When the facts change, I will change my mid, until then I will remain cynical and jaundiced about Enic’s intentions and Levy’s who is a proven liar.
.
I bet you still believe in Santa and the tooth fairy…
Celebrating a CL final and the few weeks we spend at the top of the league. Totally pointless when we win nothing at the end of each season
I bet you were one of those last season “but we’re top of the league”, no basis in reality just as bad as ENIC and just as culpable.
Didn’t even take a punt, didn’t get in a youngster. We have no backup. We haven’t won a trophy in 15 years, could it have anything to do with poor transfer activity of which a lack of backup striking option would be the perfect example? This is not my only gripe with this window but it is one I can see hurting us.
And yet here we are, 3 from 3 and top of the league.
If you were a “high quality” striker would you want to be a back up option to Harry Kane in a system that has historically involved playing 1 up front for a club that hasn’t won a trophy in 15 years?
We have tried a variety of people who had good seasons in their native leagues and failed to find a solution. Finding someone good needs to be a stroke of luck or a youngster.
And yet here we are 3 wins from three.
And if Sanchez and Dier had gone, our centreback pairing would be Rodon and Carter Vickers… couldn’t see us being top of the league then!
Mate, I’d say that by Spurs standards its a pretty positive window. Maybe not by Man City/Chelsea/Man Utd standards, but then we don’t have that sort of power.
Gil, Emerson and Romaro could all have a big part to play this season, plus loads of deadwood gone, plus no panic buys at striker that we’ll be moaning about for 5 years.
The squad is better… significantly so. You seem to think that Patrici just snaps his fingers and we’ll sign whoever we want. I say fair play, we seem to be shooting for a higher calibre of player than in recent years and not all of them are going to want to come.
But, as the kinds say… haters gonna hate.
We did well to get rid a lot of the high-earning deadwood but had we done it sooner (last summer) then we may have done a lot better than the combined £7.5m we received for Toby, Aurier and Sissoko. Spurs cannot offer players the chance to compete for the title or any meaningful European competition so it was always going to be a case of enticing young prospects to join the jam tomorrow rebuild. The squad is still lop-sided though. We have 3 right-backs, only one recognised striker (who doesn’t want to be there) and only creative midfielder who also doesn’t want to be there. Add to the mix a player we just spent £43m 5 minutes ago on who has buggered off on international duty for 3 months along with LoCelso who has never managed to put a run of more than 3 games together in the 2 full seasons he has been with us.
As usual its Treading Water FC.
Well said you only need to look at the Wolves game to see what life without Kane is like. We had no focal point up front and until Kane came on we just kept turning over the ball and were under constant pressure as a result. A good team would have hammered Spurs that day. Kane and Son WILL get injured at some point and when they do we are rubbarbed. Trading Water FC.
Problem is Bales work rate was questionable & he only turned up v lesser teams apart from Leceister which was a game they had to win. Bale, Tanguy & Lo celso all of whom will struggle under Nuno because he insists on a level of fitness these 3 havent displayed on a regular basis. You have to have wealthy owners if your willing to sit collectively on 600k wages/week for little or no return
Most of the top 4 teams were in transition or under achieved…. that sequence of events is unlikely to be seen in another 20 years… Look what Chelsea have done in the past 3 seasons regards their squad…. selling Hazard for 130 mill or whatever was incredible & they followed that up with 400-450 mill of signings since. I cant see us even challenging for a top4 position… the others are simply too far ahead… we are buying players for the future, the others mainly for the present
Tanguy – you must be joking, Dele is all running and no creative ability anymore, Gio has done nothing of note since arriving and will be isolating until around Christmas time unless they change the covid travel rules.
Also Stevie, Gil and Lucas have about 10 goals a season between them if we’re lucky.
I hope you’re right but this squad doesn’t fill me with much optimism.
Been crying out for a high-quality backup/option striker for years now, it’s got to the stage where we would now be happy with ANY other striker. This is not how you run a top 4/6/or even 10 club!
To suggest that Sonny will deputise when Kane is injured/knackered at Christmas… who exactly will replace Sonny when he’s injured/knackered from playing every minute of every game? They will both play every PL game, even at the busiest periods of the season, if they don’t we won’t be scoring many goals.
Maybe I’ve missed something here and one or two of our other “attacking players” are going to bang in 15+ goals this season but I just don’t see it happening. There is no evidence to suggest that anyone other than Kane and Son can consistently score and assist throughout the season.
Also who is our proven striker in the Euro Conference League? We don’t have one! Surely Kane and Sonny aren’t going to be traveling with the squad to sit on the bench against Dynamo Grebend? If they do then they’ll be called upon to get us out of trouble more often than not I’d expect, we may not have even qualified for the group stages without Kane’s goals…just let that sink in.
I agree, we will miss Bale this season. More so because in a rejuvenated atmosphere he could have scored even more.
He scored 11 goals in 20 appearances last season. Who’s going to step up and do that? Bergjwin won’t, Moura won’t.
Squad list will be interesting, whilst incomings look decent, it feels rather lackluster but then Dof and manager were late in and it shows. The club fell short of its leaked objectives. Paratici will perform even better with more time prior to a transfer window opening (if he’s left to do his job)
He’s a super talented player but in light of the evidence so far I suspect he has mental health issues.
Only Levy would spend that kind of money on a complete wrongun up top, he was obsessed with his age and potential, crucially the profit from a future sell on.
Levy seems to think he’s cleverer than everyone else, he thinks because of what happened with Modric and Bale that he can just go and make it happen again. Tangy was not scouted thoroughly enough, I’m guessing Levy might blame Hitchen but Levy employs Hitchen and signs every deal off.
Levy got greedy with the concept of what Tangy might be and ignored the details. Brilliant…
And of some guys are flexible, Japhet, Ben as Centre, Dier as Mid, Lucas as Striker
2 Goalkeepers – Hugo, Gollini
3 Right Backs – Doherty, Emerson, Japhet
3 Left Backs – Sergio, Ben, Sessegnon
4 Centre – Sanchez, Romero, Dier, Rodon
3 Mids – Pierre, Skippy, Winks
3 Attacking Mids – Dele, Gio, Tanguy?
3 Flanks – Stevie, Gil, Lucas
2 Strikers – Harry, Sonny
Doesn’t look too shabby and there is always January !
Romero loan deal is until January then it becomes permanant. It had to be a loan now as Atlanta bought him from his parent club and the rules state that a player cannot be sold twice in the same window.
So how much teams like Chelsea, Utd and City have spent improving their squads is irrelevant I take it? 🤔
Some people are easily “amazed. Others not so much. (Especially in sports
I would be amazed if lo no show completes 90 minutes in an EPL game by Xmas……
Leicester squad wasn’t much better than ours is now when they won the title, we just need consistency & a better defence than last season, which we are showing …..so far.
Yeah Lo celso is rubbish ,he is more in the type of Dele type player. A luxury to have when your team has 8 world class starters. He lacks the footballing brain that a creative mid needs
Unfortunately that figure isnt a misprint. I normally fly to the UK 2 times a year to watch spurs. If we were in the champs league it would of been 1 in the UK and the other game In Europe. Its expensive to watch your team play when its based in another country, flights accomdatiom ,meals ,visit to the spurs store etc. But I guess it’s worth the saving here and there to be able to watch ur team in person. The shitstorm starts when ur team gets hammered and you have to fly for 12 hours all grumpy wearing the same spurs merch you bought because you tried to save some money doing laundry lol over the last 6 years the cost for me to watch spurs live has increased by around 45%. Good London hotels are expensive as well.
Levy is a crooked bastard. He couldn’t be more blatant about his love for wealth
So if ‘everyone’ plays at their ‘best’ then we are going to win the league or at least be finishing in the top two positions (this is what’s known as top of the league).
I reckon I did my ‘best’ to build a spaceship out of egg boxes then I’d make it to Mars…
Well observed Marbella Spur (speaking as one who is also a Spurs fan since ’62), Unfortunately others are rather more naive when it comes to Levy and ENIC’s modus operandae. The £15 mill per season net spend for the last 10 years tells its own story. The typical transfer window PR spin, the endless big name associations, the last minute offers that in reality are designed to fail, are all part of a carefully calculated plan to keep the season ticket holders, merchandise purchasing punters and corporate sponsors onside.
In reality chronic under-investment in the team is the true narrative. ENIC are first and foremost a property investment outfit. The football club is entirely secondary. The principals of ENIC have never invested a penny of their own money in the club, especially player acquisition and have no intentions of doing so. They are solely interested in Champions League participation revenue, I suspect in their eyes actually winning trophies costs too much money in player investment and wages, for too little financial reward.
However, in order to obfuscate this hidden agenda from a largely unsuspecting season-ticket/merchandise purchasing segment of the fan base, ENIC indulge in this seasonal charade whereby an enthusiastic player acquisition narrative is broadly promoted, via willing accomplices in the media. The end result however is almost always underwhelming, characterised by associations with a host of big name/star players, whilst in reality ultimately purchasing inferior substitutes/promising youngsters. Rinse and repeat! The ENIC way!
You’re on your own there mate… 😂
Don’t forget Sissoko, Toby and Lamela’s salaries disappearing which equates to at least £15M against whatever we are now paying Romero and Gill of course but I would suspect the whole wage bill has gotten smaller this season, no Bale wages either.
Therefore the ‘headroom’ is obviously there to spend more and address the issues, it’s just that Daniel would rather keep the doh under his mattress rather than put it to good use…
couldn`t agree more, but as i said he is about the only option
Bryan Gil might be that player but again we need to wait and see
I have said many times relative of his attitude and lack lustre performances this boy is super talented and hopefully he shows us exactly that
Sonny can easily play up front if Kane gets a knock, and I belive the Romero deal is a loan with commitment to buy, so we haven’t coughed up that £40-odd million yet. All in all, I think it’s been a good window.

He’s shown very little to be excited about. The Premier League isn’t the place for him.
A top of the league team? Look at the Chelsea or Citeh sqauds then look at ours… If we finish top 6 it will be a good season…
Celly. Push out your chest. Don’t listen to the nonsense.
How many games in the EPL has lo celso lasted 90 minutes or had a positive impact? The latter half of last season how many points did we lose from winning positions? It must be coincidence that in nearly all those games either lo celso, or tanguy were gassed after 60 minutes.
Paying potentially 42 million for an unfit defender who may play at best 20 games suggests to me we wont be exercising his option at the end of his loan period…so what was the point? We probably needed 6 players this window.. a gk, centre back, right back, def mid, creative midfielder & a striker… if you accept the guy from sevilla can play as a creative midfielder then arguably most gaps have been plugged… we need to see where we are after 2 more transfer windows. Whats interesting is that Levy sees Nuno as a better squad builder than either Mourinho or Benitez…. we already have a lighter Traore in the shape of Berhgyn. The Hassam guy would have been a good signing…. lets see if Tanguy can step up…200k/week to be nowhere near the first team is a lot of wasted money
If everyone plays at their best we have a top of the league team – but that consistency is a rarity and they still take it in turns to have mediocre performances.
Celly is pony? I take it you didn’t watch the copa America. Celly is a baller. End of.
Lo celso is 💩…furthermore he hasnt completed 90 mins in a spurs shirt in at least 12, possibly 18 months… so any time he starts, thats one sub used already. Maybe in the event of injury Nuno will play Eric Dier in midfield 😂. What we really need is a fully fit Tanguy however I think we have seen him maybe a dozen times in 2-3 years…😉
I hope that $14000 figure was a misprint my friend and that you really mean $1400! Otherwise, unless you are a multi-millionaire, one would have to question your sanity at shelling out $14000 to watch a Spurs game!
You wonder if Levy took a reduction in wages and dividends to help Spurs out??? … lol … He owns 29.4 % of ENIC, which in essence means he owns 29.4% of the future net ‘buy’ price of THFC when ENIC eventually sell the club and drain as much profit from it as they can.
In which context, Levy taking a reduction in salary would be akin to driving past a beggar in his Bentley Mulsanne turbo and throwing him some loose/pocket change out of the window! A pittance compared to the actual thievery being connived at by the owners of our club!
Kind of happy with the exits….even happier if we found new homes for winks/dier/sanchez
Think we are a tad light, needed another centre back, playmaker and striker.
Well transfer window is closed let’s see where Nuno takes us over the next few months.
League table does look good though from TOP to BOTTOM
Some of our deadwood is gone, which is good, but still some to go.However as others have stated,no back up for Kane, and no polaymaker in MF is very remiss.N’Dmbele needs to start performing as 200K/wk is a waste of money currently. And those that have arrived will not make an immediate entry into the first 11.
Yes make the most of sitting on top of the league because it won’t last long.Good luck to Nuno, but the squad is very thin outside the starting 11.
Fair analysis, I think the reason we got Serge
and Mousa out was to re- ignite Ndombele
one way or another we need him to be available to play he’s the only creative player in the squad
Well said young man.
I do not think it at all unfair. How many transfer windows have we all experienced where we have been linked with good players which come to nothing? I don’t believe that any other club is subject to the plethora of rumours that we are and that is not a coincidence. Other clubs get on with their business quietly, quickly and efficiently and what’s more important, generally in good time. How many times have the fans had to read that we tried to do a deal but we couldn’t agree terms, normally because Levy wouldn’t go that extra mile. At no stage did I suggest that Traore was a good buy at £50 mill. In my opinion, he has no end product at all but I would have been happy if we had bought Doku or Neves for example. Do you not think that I, as a Spurs supporter since 1962 would prefer us to do great business in the transfer window so that we can really compete with the top teams? I am realistic enough to realise that after 22 years of Levy’s mismanagement of the club’s lack of success on the football pitch that I am extremely cynical about Levy’s modus operandi and his ambitions which appear to be content with a top four place and increasing the property portfolio. If I had wanted to support a property company, I could have appeared at the Land Secs AGM and applauded the board for their foresight.
“Math? Its maths. This is England
Bale and Carlos scored the guts of 30 goals between them last season and we have not replaced them whatsoever. We are far far weaker up front because of that..Fcuk off Levy pls .
The club didn’t terminate Serge at all, he agreed to be released from the last year of his contract, as opposed to doing a Danny Rose and sitting in the reserves/training with the youth team, drawing a paycheck. It’s fair play to Serge (same as with Willian at Arsenal) nothing to do with the club.
Yes you are correct we threw away enough points that would of helped us in 4th . But the other teams threw away points as well. We were on the league where we deserved to be.
I’m sorry to see him go. Fantastic squad/domestic cup player. Best of luck to you “power serge mate. He’ll be proper missed at Hotspur way. Jester
We need to work on Lo celso being the creative midfield player we need ,on paper him and Ndombele look good, but during am actual game that’s another story. Looks like we are skint ,I wonder if Levy took a reduction in wages and dividends to help spurs out. I managed to get a package to fly to the UK for the 18 of Decemeber to watch spurs vs liverpool. All costs including accomodation ,flights totaling $14000 just to watch spurs play. I pray it wasnt a waste of hard earned cash. I made a decision not to spend any money on spurs merch untill ENIC leaves spurs but my son wants to watch spurs while Kane is there.
Unfair… the Spurs PR department do not release transfer speculation, if it leaks from the other parties involved then not their fault. I say they WERE trying to sign these players but the deals didn’t work out for various reasons.
Could we have signed Martinez? He and his agent seemed pretty adamant that he wanted to stay put. Also, Romero was one of the “big names” and he was signed.
And if you think Traore is worth the £50m Wolves wanted then you’re mad!
I think you just want something to moan about.
