“None of this will do anything to persuade Kane to stay.” Columnist says Tottenham’s managerial search wouldn’t have impressed Kane

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has been searching for a new manager over the last two months after sacking Jose Mourinho.

The Lilywhites finished last season poorly and the fact that even Mourinho couldn’t help them get back inside the top four probably doesn’t make the job attractive to top managers.

The Lilywhites have also been rocked by the intention of their best player, Harry Kane, to leave the club this summer.

Kane has been loyal to them his entire career and his goals are one reason why they have remained a top Premier League club.

The England captain would be a big miss if he leaves, but Spurs plan to fight to keep him for another season.

Kane will be paying close attention to their managerial search and Sports Mail’s Ian Ladyman says the striker will be less than impressed by how the search has gone so far.

He also said the choice of Paulo Fonseca as their next boss won’t appear inspiring enough to make Kane want to stay.

He writes in the Daily Mail: “Harry Kane will doubtless still be a Tottenham Hotspur player by the start of pre-season training. Any transfer away from the club is unlikely to be done quickly.

“But what will the England captain return to when the Euros are over and normal football life resumes?

“Tottenham’s search for a new manager has been of the rollercoaster variety.

“A move for Brendan Rodgers became a push for Erik Ten Hag of Ajax. That soon morphed into a pursuit of free agent Antonio Conte and now all roads have led to a deal with former Roma coach Paulo Fonseca that we are led to believe is almost done.

“None of this will do anything to persuade Kane to stay. Fonseca has done little in his eclectic playing and managerial career to suggest he will pull up trees in the Premier League. It feels a little bit as though he is merely the last available fish in Daniel Levy’s barrel.”

Another morning of same ole somebody says and the fans goes bunkers over the reguratiing of the same, no quote and unsubstantiated utterances. Once the dust settles no journalists will be fired, none will asked to verify there stories. Players get sold, Managers get fired, but these keyboard bullies keep pumping out the same stories day after day. Let me stop I cannot afford to get banned before the preseason. Bye the way the fans who think Vinicus brought here to spell Kane are the same complaining of Harry ineffectiveness at the Euro. The powers found it fit to bring in a foreign player into the toughest league to adopt in the first year. He hardly make the roster for the PL. he scored at will in the Ropey, yet no one seems to think, gosh. We could have done better getting someone ala Llorente already in the league to give Kane a rest.

The more I read about him, the more “pro fonz” I become…

Roma were apparently known as Serie A’s “entertainers” last season, creating loads of chances per game. They were actually 3rd in March but had a very Spursy late season collapse. Popular with players, but worked them hard, communicates extensively.

Have you seen that video of him doing a press conference dressed as Zorro!? Seems like he could be a character!

I think there’s a danger of this “not good enough” mentality becoming herd mentality without an awful lot of substance. There is not any candidate that will be a puller up of trees – we all know the reasons why – so give the man a chance!

It’s too late Harry’s minds made up. He is on record as saying he was happy to stay at Spurs as long as the club matched his ambitions.

Levy has just explained why the club can’t match his ambitions. Only thing left now is to work out the transfer fee.

Levy will be furious that anyone at the club has had the audacity to make moves that might undermine his running of the charade and publicly express dissatisfaction with it.

This is like Stalinism, nobody dare question a thing because “we have the club’s best interests at heart” and to go against the regime is tantamount to treachery in Levy’s eyes.

Who the f*ck does he and these people that have put no money into the club think they are. Everything has been done on borrowed money and the supporter’s money, meanwhile Joe sits on a 6bn fortune.

There really are no excuses for this nonsense. Levy trotting out his business plan which has so far involved winning less silverware than Leicester have (their owners did it in under half the time ENIC have been stinking the place out) just doesn’t float.
