Fonseca tipped to raid former club for three players to start his Tottenham stint

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham will reportedly soon end its search for a new manager by naming Paulo Fonseca as the replacement to Jose Mourinho.

The Lilywhites have been searching for a new head coach for the last two months after they fired Mourinho.

Several of their top targets have been unattainable and they have now turned to Fonseca.

The Portuguese boss has just left AS Roma, whom he led to the semi-final of the Europa League.

The Italians replaced him with Mourinho and he is set to follow the former Porto boss to have a stint in North London.

Spurs should announce his appointment this week and he has been tipped to return to Roma to bring in some of his trusted men.

La Repubblica via Sun Sports says there are three players whom he would love to work with while in London.

The report says he had a fine working relationship with Gianluca Mancini and would love to add him to his Tottenham squad.

He also enjoyed working with Lorenzo Pellegrini and will bring the creative midfielder to London if a deal can be agreed.

23-year-old Gonzalo Villar is the other player that he would love to work with again when Spurs names him their next boss.

These players wouldn’t be easy to sign considering that Mourinho will want to keep his best stars head of the new season.

Yes and Jose will say of course no problem. Id be surprised if Jose allows any of his players to go to spurs unless its for a boatload

He did a lot of hard work defensively and scored the only goal, so why do I still think he’s little more than a headless chicken impeding most of England’s attacking play?

Did his best to miss … Sterling still rubbish. That shot?! 200 bags a week can’t kick with left foot.

Had Pohjanpalo to score yesterday. Finland were my surprise team, fancy the old Red Lynxes might shock a few later too….

He must think he’s playing for us,he’s getting no service that’s why he’s dropping back.Commentators bigging up Sterling all the time,he’s been rubbish.Get Grealish on.I would have had James over Walker.

I’d get closer to Modric, getting too much space and time.

Luka will control the pace 2nd half. Only player out there worth watching. Foden maybe…
Yes. Kane’s always anonymous when Sterling plays.

Very hot, second half as Croatia tire space will open, then you bring on Grealish and Bellingham.

Couple of ricochets, one from Foden and Harry is nowhere to be seen. Stay in and around the box Harry.

It horrible. The crowds not being there has killed it. You wouldn’t get away with playing like this 20/30 years ago. Even one backwards pass and the crowd would be on the players back. It’s utter dross.

What does everyone think about the England showing? I’ve seen the last 15 of the first half and wondered if this was a friendly. Tripps at LB, no Grealish, Sterling running into people to no great purpose, and it’s played at a walking pace. No urgency.

This is a European Championship, which England essentially play at home! Not a post-season trip to play Yokohama Wanderers somewhere on Hokkaido Island.

Wow. Abject. What happened to football? Sterling garbage but Jenas seems to think hes been great?!? Croatia look like they chuckng it….I hope they just know after a while England will create little, run out of ideas and then they’ll pick them off.

Sideways and backwards in front of nobody. Euro 2020/21. You’d think they would choose venues that allowed crowds. Do it all in Denmark or Sweden or Texas ffs. Wembley is dead. This is no European champioships.

He’s a very conservative coach Southgate, safety first. Don’t get beaten will be the plan.
