“Move appears more likely” – Alasdair Gold’s optimistic transfer update on 26-year-old linked with Spurs

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold, Spurs are still interested in signing Tosin Adarabioyo.

Spurs were strongly linked with the Fulham centre-back in the summer as Ange Postecoglou was keen on further bolstering the defense after the signing of Micky van de Ven.

But Tottenham failed to sign him or another centre-back, leaving themselves in a very delicate situation with only Eric Dier as the experienced back-up option.

And they had to suffer for failing to sign a defender at that time during the current crisis. Both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have been unavailable for the last three games, the dutchman with an injury while Romero was suspended.

In their absence, Ange played makeshift centre-backs in Ben Davies and Emerson Royal as his preferred defenders.

Romero will be back in the next game but Van de Ven is expected to be out for a longer period which makes signing another defender even more crucial in the January window.

They have been linked with a number of options, with a report suggesting that Spurs have drawn a four-man shortlist of defensive targets – Marc Guehi, Jarrad Branthwaite, Lloyd Kelly and Jean-Clair Todibo.

Another report claims that Ange has also instructed Spurs to make a move for Sporting Lisbon’s Inacio.

Guehi can now be ruled out after it was reported that the player has decided to stay until the summer and the club will not be selling him before the Euro 2024 either.

Alasdair Gold has now claimed that Tottenham remain interested in signing their summer target Tosin Adarabioyo who has six months left in his contract. However, he adds that a free move in the summer is more likely at this point.

He reported (via Football London):

“Tottenham have continued to show interest ahead of January in Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, with the 26-year-old having just returned in recent weeks from groin surgery.

“The centre-back has only six months left on his contract but at this point a summer free move somewhere appears more likely for the player.”

TBH Says:

While a free move in summer would make sense in the case of the Fulham defender, Spurs still desperately need to sign a centre-back this January.

Whether it will be one of the aforementioned names or a someone else remains to be seen.
