Ange Postecoglou has ‘instructed Tottenham’ to make a move for ‘quality’ defender

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to TeamTalk, manager Ange Postecoglou has ‘instructed Tottenham’ to make a move for Sporting Lisbon star Goncalo Inacio.

The club are in dire need of a centre-back, a position that has become the top-priority for Ange and co.

Their star summer signing Micky van de Ven suffered a hamstring injury against Chelsea which will keep him out till at least January.

His absence has come as a major blow given that him and Cristian Romero had formed one of the best defensive partnerships in the league.

Romero is also currently unavailable as he serves his 3 game ban after receiving the red card for the challenge on Enzo during the defeat against Chelsea.

The only back-up they have is Eric Dier but he has failed to impress the manager who has made it quite evident that the player is not in his plans. So much so that he was not even given the nod to start against Aston Villa despite the injuries with the manager preferring to start Emerson Royal as a makeshift centre-back over him.

This situation has made it necessary for Spurs to target another top class defender in January with the likes of Lloyd Kelly and Jean-Clair Todibo so far.

They have also been linked with Sporting’s Inacio, and now as per the report by TeamTalk, the manager has told the club to join the race for the ‘quality’ defender.

However, as per Ben Jacobs, it will not be easy signing him since he has big release clause on him worth €60m and Sporting will not be willing to lose one of their best players in the middle of the season.

Whether Spurs will heed Ange’s request and make a move for him remains to be seen. One thing is certain and that is if the club fails to sign a top quality centre-back, their season will be at the risk of further derailing.
