Possibly one of the worst Spurs performance I’ve watched in some considerable time, from over 35 years watching many iffy Tottenham games, usually when we were primed for another reinvention…
Is José Mourinho in fact, an imposter?!
Not entirely, as I believe there’s a lifetime of difference between the training ground and the actual Premier League itself, and that the gaffer has been let down.
IF that’s a lie, then I trust the Dele Alli fanboys won’t be piling on the Portuguese Pulis tonight. The Milton Keynes Mauler was abysmal in every respect.
Who’s to blame, then?
What I can tell you, is that not one single forward Tottenham player featured at the top of any stats related discipline, such as shots, chances or take-ons.
These are individual flaws, not tactical ones. Our players must have known they were expected to shoot, create chances and take-on the opposition…
This squad needs a wake-up call, far too many complacent players in the squad, who think they are safe from being transferred.
As Gary Neville said during the first half that we didn’t have a plan, after the first pass. Chillingly accurate. Do players earning what Spurs players do, really need a coach for that?
Embarrasing.
We’ll dig deep into the stats tomorrow, but the fundamental issue José faces when reconstructing Spurs is finding not just the right personnel but the right players to implement any plan.
” Even Mourinho is not without likeable moments, although he acts like a man who swears to try to impress the cool kids, not because he feels it.”
I’m not convinced Maureen really feels it at all any more. I suspect he’s at a club which he in no way whatsoever suits for entirely pragmatic reasons. Kane looks dead eyed and has the demeanor of someone who’s in a waiting room. Toby looks like he doesn’t quite know how he’s going to get through the extra years he’s just signed up to.
It all feels pretty grim at the mo.

I know his club scribes in Kensington did well out of it.🌚
They can’t even park the bus properly. Maybe they need a new driver
Not if Ray was in front of him
Onwards and Sideways
or Sideways and Backwards (says Harry Winks)
I only burn quality (Jamaica’s finest) natural hurbs when I’ve done what I have to do. Not that stinky $h!t you probably smoke that obviously turned your brain into what it is. Its the THC CBD imbalance see.
Some owners put their hands in their pockets (and wash dirty money) Some owners don’t put their hands in their pockets. We have the latter. Its how it is. No amount of moaning will change that. Don’t you wish you had the strength to deal with and handle the stuff you dont like and cant change in life? And not let it get you down? JOE AINT CHANGING.
So we can’t discuss things we feel are wrong on the basis that it’s disloyal to the club? What have you been smoking, must be good gear! 😂
As good as any. It’s a funny old game
Proved wyrong about b!7ching won’t help? Is it helping? Talk talk talk without doing is meaningless. I’m a do kinda guy. Probably why I’ve got myself in so much fkry in the past. If I can’t “do” I don’t bother with the talking bit. It winds myself up.
Give the manager a decent budget, hire good scouts and let them get on with it is what the successful owners do…
Might as well say something, saying nothing certainly doesn’t help either, what’s your point? Apart from not liking being proved wrong?
Onwards and downwards? 😂
Onwards and
upwards‘insert negative phrase here’What’s saying things about it gonna do about it without action? Radical action? You’re bi£ch!ng ain’t changing a thing. Think I’ll save my breath.
Name me one chairman who has any expertise in football. Money people run football not football people
No I didn’t, I said he put in duffel bags. The only mugs are the ones that don’t say anything about it. Comfortably numb zombies…
And to think the press wanted us to believe there was interest in Winks from City..!!
We like him for his love for the club, but we’ve got to look for better.
I wonder if he will pass Ray Wilkins for England caps.
Are people thick because they accept the fact they can’t do anything about levy being there and still get behind the club they love? Is it not weak of them to let levy make them stop supporting the club fully they’ve loved for most of their lives? Levy could never get me to be like you. And if he could I’d at least try to do something about it other than screaming levy out. I’d be out doing what I did re sugar. Nearly got me in trouble that did but at least I know I tried. Would I do it again 100% no.
I agree with re: Poch. I previously posted the below saying the same.
A completely abject performance, no excuses just really poor.
If that’s what we have to look forward to for the season, then be prepared to lower expectations of winning anything or league positioning, as it’s less painful that way.
Bringing Poch up gain, there was a least a 3 year period where, despite not winning anything as many keep pointing out, I genuinely looked forward to the next game because we were entertaining and you felt we could win.
As some fans have said, move on and forget, to this..??
You said only mugs spend money with Tottenham coz joes taking it away in duffle bags. Fool
“Not with fans like you he’s been relying on your sort for 20 years” ??
Yes, great minds obviously think alike? 🤔 😂
Levy is a micromanaging bore who’s only area of expertise seems to be property development…
We is f**cked innit…
Snap! 😂
Levy can sack himself while he’s at it…
I read the Holt piece and it’s hard to disagree with any of it. The Poch era was as good as we will see for many a year. Bringing in a blue-chip ‘heritage’ manager like Jose is Levy’s lame attempt to try and convince everyone that he’s being ‘ambitious’.
If you can’t see that then I feel only sorry for you…
Come on Citeh take Winks off our hands asap.
I know Spurs will improve – remember first half against Villa and the whole game against Barcodes and that Everton will drop off (Ha-mes will not fancy Burnley away in the snow)
but Ancelotti is always the manager I have wanted – not Pochettino or Mourinho.
Shame we missed out.
No depth, total lack of quality…
There a lot of gullible people out there. Thick even…
Levy is a small time bore masquerading as some kind of shrewd genius. If you look at the size of the club and the financial ruin it was in when Sugar took over then Sugar actually handed it over to ENIC debt free. Now look at the state of it!
I was never a fan of Sugar’s time at the club but his time meant ENIC took over one of the world’s biggest football brands in the world’s wealthiest league, debt free.
If you look at the profile of clubs like Leicester, Citeh, Chelsea, Southampton, Bournemouth, Wolves, (the list is long) then many clubs have raised their profile in the last 5-10-20 years that ENIC have been at Spurs.
Was it that hard to raise a club of Tottenham’s size from mid table up to 6th -7th (around the Jol era)? Then Harry had a go in the Champions League until he was shown the door for asking to kick on again.
Then Poch had his five season stint working with a ridiculously paltry budget compared to the competition. He got us to a regular League placing Spurs had never seen before in the Premiership and a Champions League final.
I have no doubt Jose will get an improvement on yesterday but the reality of the lack of quality in depth and the impact of not backing and eventually sacking Poch is now actually being felt.
It’s a double whammy, you have a manager who got a very decent but not world class group of players playing at a very high level sacked. You also have the lack of investment over several years as a result. It was a false paradise for the club.
This latest splurge of the cash Poch’s team raked in from the Champions League runs has been spent on more punts, just as the Bale money was. Only LoCelso looks anywhere near fit for purpose.
Another thing that looks clear to me is that the players were very fond of Poch. Yes it was high intensity training and hard to sustain but Bielsa is exactly the same at Leeds. You go with it and you get your rewards but you need players in and out to keep it fresh, you keep faith in the method.
Levy seems to think that it was he that ‘masterminded’ our top four status, well he didn’t and without Poch it would never have happened.
I look at all those Saints players that Poch had there, players like Lalana and Lambert getting England caps etc. Where are any of them now? It’s the Poch effect and I hope I’m wrong, but without Poch this group are just as average I’m afraid.
It will take more than a thug like PEH and Burnley’s 3rd choice keeper to remedy this mess…
The movie “Inception” springs to mind. It all makes sense now
Levy sack yourself while you’re at it.
Certain players have no hunger or desire left bring in a 25-26 year old and he’s already set
In his ways, bring in good young hungry players and a manager has to tell them to go home after training ! all they want to do is be on the training pitch all day long,I bet first thing every morning the same players start the day on the physio table getting a massage ie.
Deli
Dier
Davies
Winks
Sissoko
Lamela
All who now think they are uncoachable and wouldn’t get a game for any of the so called top 6 also heard on documentary
Sissoko has a big influence in the changing room. 😮😮😮😮😮😮 wow should you not really need to be a big influence on the pitch first
If anybody has the time or patience, please read the link from Oliver Holt in yesterday’s Mail re the Amazon doc. It is depressing reading.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8726353/OLIVER-HOLT-Jose-
Mourinho-vanity-project-struggles-hide-inconvenient-truth.html
It would be silly to predict our season based on the first game, but the omens look poor. There were several things I noticed yesterday. Hjojberg is a thug who was lucky to only get a yellow card for a challenge on Richarlison. There is no substitute for skill and perspicacity in midfield. Everton have strengthened theirs, we have not. I watched when N’Dombele came on and there was a five minute period around the 85th minute when, although he receive and passed the ball five times, he did not move away from a ten yard radius. Sheer laziness. I keep saying it but Delli Alli is a complete waste of space, and I am sure that Mourinho knows it. It wasn’t very clever of him to go out and buy a Rolls Royce for £390,000, given the state of current affairs. the sooner we can sell him, the better. the main thing I felt was that I have never seen Kane so disinterested in playing for the club, and I suspect that this will be his last season. I imagine that Mourinho would love to get sacked, he has already started his snide excuses in the media. The only problem is that Levy cannot afford to sack him.
* all of the blame. Please
I don’t even know if this is a joke. Such is 2020.
I said to my 82 year old father yesterday that I never wanted mourhinho as I disliked his style at manure and knew this would happen.
I liked the Amazon series.
How can we get from Poch to here in 18 months with largely the same team?
I absolutely looked forward to every game under Poch, feeling like every game was going to be an adrenaline rush. The football was fantastic…. most of the time.
Dear Daniel Levy. Sack this man and spare us more of this mental torture
You’d like to think when propaganda is that crude everybody just laughs at it. Unfortunately that is never the case.
Europa League winners 2021, just say it and it’s happened..
Jose has to shoulder some of the blame. We were competitive in the 1st half and despite their possession Everton didnt create much other than the chance we gifted them. Jose changed things up at half time and the wheels fell off. What was the thinking behind Hojbjerg, Winks and Sissoko in midfield? Devoid of any creativity. The formation changed 3 times in almost as many minutes, 4231, 442, 343. No wonder it was a disjointed performance. Dont worry Troy Deeney will be coming in to rescue us. Its going to be a long season (which could effectively be over next week).
I can’t remember seeImg such an inept opening day performance, there’s not a player in any level of football who needs motivated on the opening day !
Our lack of action in the transfer windows of the last 2-3 seasons is at the heart of it,we have lots of players in the comfort zone who don’t need to be at the top of their game, same faces, same settings same day in day out, nothing to worry about, wage in the bank at the end of the month.
Familiarity breeds contempt
The squad should be freshened up at every transfer window more in the summer 1 in 1 out in January
On yesterday’s performance it also looked like
Harry’s mind set has altered.
We were rubbish.. The toffees will be a force now though. They’ve signed good players.
Main problem was Allen and Rodriguez.. Two class midfielders.. Pierre and winks couldnt live with them… They were the hub in the middle really instrumental…… Everton spent money wisely there..
Just finished all or nothing and Mr Levy thinks that ‘everyone’ forgets he spent 140 mil odd last season…. Yes, on absolute rubbish!…… Quote by him at the end I still cannot believe the ego of this man……. “Tottenham, when I took over was a much smaller club than it is now”….. 🙈
‘Lazy press’ summed it up… The truth is we are not good enough. Players like Son and Dele etc with no competition for their place are bound to get complacent. Davies the only option at left back. No striker to bring on to support Kane… Doherty is the only good signing so far. Pierre was a shambles….
alas its gonna be nigh on impossible due to the debt levels. Scary stuff..
And that says to me that we are talking about people that are seriously under motivated. Now at the end of a season where nothing to play for thats kind of understandable. But first game of the season? That says something is wrong at the fanciest training ground in the world. We can all speculate and may never know, but that unusual and deeply worrying
What will worry Jose is the lack of chances created.
Painful to watch, very bad day at the office, our players never got going and when they did get going they quickly ran out of ideas, easily muscled out of it throughout the match misplacing passes and hoofing it up to no mans land!
Compared to the gloom and doom surrounding Mourinho very impressed with the way Arteta is motivating his troops!
Good points. Agreed all very well having a shiny state of the art stadium provided the players fulfil the expectations of the supporters which on the evidence of this shambolic display and past inept performances they ain’t up to scratch. A massive clear out is required starting with a regime change easier said than done!
Spot on.
Right the fact poch is being talked about is lunacy. Sorry it is. Jose has had 2 transfer windows and a pre season as well as by his own admission 10 months with the team now. So like it or not jose aint immune here, but ultimately the blame lies where it always has. That rodent of a chairman. Fans don’t understand how hard it is to run a club apparently. Well clearly he doesn’t either cos I doubt he could run a bath. Human nature means that other chairman will be itching to have him over given his antics over the years, and that along with his ego are the biggest issues behind his reluctance to spend any money. I dont have a problem with finding a bargain, but its just not possible to find players at rock bottom prices that will perform like top class players on a weekly basis. Even if we had a scouting network worthy of the name. Clearly we don’t. And now the age old bale stories are back. Let’s be honest here, he’s not the player he was, vastly over paid, and even if he was mad enough to want a part of this circus, I dont see it being good for a clearly unhappy camp. Wilson, castagne and the lad from Watford who’s at Everton now should have been brought in. Not big money but certainly necessary among other problem areas. And if we couldn’t afford them, then the question must be asked again, why have we built a stadium for that much then?
Who has ever told you to to stop supporting the team? Nobody that’s who, you’re just making stuff up.
Not sure about that logic but it’s your theory. Certainly not mine.
I’m not saying anyone is wrong from spending money on them, or that they shouldn’t support the team. I also reserve the right to complain about stuff that I see as important.
If people like myself got their wish the club would be in a better place. Everyone wants that, including yourself right?
Our owners are the only obstacle to the club being where it deserves to be. I will talk about other stuff as the season progresses but it’s such a massive issue that no relatively sane individual can ignore it.
..
Should I have stopped supporting my team for the past 20 years or until they go? Or till the good times return ? My kids/grandkids wouldn’t be spurs fans if I did. Struth.
Listen east stand. Stop running up your mouth or link me. You’ve done nothing but moan about enic and levy. Nothing else.
I’ve realized I can’t change a thing re the money people. I just enjoy my club instead now. I’m not gonna stop spending money with my club coz of them. Christmas coming and I’m gonna enjoy spending more of my money on spurs.
Yes. Coz he has less
Its the “today” bit that threw me.
He can’t get rid of them all in one go. He’s got rid of a few of them though. The world goes on about him being a world class manager my
present manager at my club. I’ve got his back. I can’t help it. Its how I am and glad to be. Wins fk all I’ll cuss him when he’s gone.
El tell was sacked for helping himself to spurs money I was told. Fingers in till
Immediately addressing some deficiencies nice signings Everton look a much better outfit than last season.
Spot on
When he sacked el tel I was front line sugar out. It never changed a thing. As I said it even cost me not supporting my team for a good few games. All coz of that khunt. The money people are strong. What’s not logical? You’re arguing with yourself
As tuning into Jose’s turgid fare is not my cuppa!!
But a strong team will make them more money at market. Our money will make that happen not theirs.
I’m agreeing with you
I feel the same
How would you know?
Do you think they might be fed up by the lack of ambition coming from the directors box
As much as us supporters
Who’s job is it to sort that out? The world class manager you keep going on about and an ambitious owner. Do we really have either?
Sorry my mistake,didn’t hear.
The worrying thing is, it could get worse, ENIC could sell Spurs and retain the stadium and training ground so we will never get rid of them…
Sugar was there for about 10 years less and won the same trophy once, as ENIC have once.
How can you have been Sugar out and not ENIC out? It’s not logical…
Bring back Arry Redknapp – “sexy swagger football” and all that!
Jose would never be at Tottenham for five and a half years and not win anything
even for Levy a 45m payoff??!!!
As opposed to those that say nothing? I know who I’d rather be, not a “Leveeee zombeee… ohh me eads faaalen ooof…” 😂
you mean we really will do a Leeds…sounds good..
Your talking so much sense today my friend
In am waiting for the imminent media words that Jose has 3 games to save his job or it will it be more brutal than that by his costly sacking!
I mean players from that time. Want them gone. Washed up at Tottenham a lot of them. No I’m not thick to answer your question
Then we might win something, The Championship, always look on the bright side.
Just like that over fifty
New walking football league
Prob only come runners up in that
If we lose Thursday thats us out of two cups in less than a week…
Looks a long way off at the moment but I’ll have to hope we’re not actually as bad as that.
Are you thick or something? Why the Poch hate all the time? He was the manager that got us top 4 four times on Levy’s shoestring budget, he also got us to a CL final. He developed the best team in the PL for 2 years that were widely lauded around the world as one of the best teams in Europe, playing some of the most attractive football in Europe. We took on the likes of Real Madrid and beat them with ease. If Levy had supported him by freshening up the squad with a few quality players each window, then we’d still be up there.
Instead the little troll pretends to buy the likes of Dybala and Zaniola, but instead brings in cheap junk that nobody else is in for. I’m not surprised Poch got hacked off, so would you having to put up with Levy’s constant lies and self defeating tightness.
But now Levy is being found out for what he really is, because nobody doubts Mourinho’s lack of a top class track record at winning things, so even the dum-dums should now finally realise that it’s actually Levy that is the problem. The little control freak smothers every manager we get.
It’s up to the fans to protest by not buying over-priced tickets to watch this dross. Though I suspect that many are just sheep who haven’t got the brains to work it out.
Manager under pressure DD!! Relegation might beckon, ‘All Or Nothing, And The Championship’ at this rate…
Agree although that display deserves a month’s pay at least
I’m sure we’ll improve, how can we not?! It’s just to what extent, enough to get top four? Looking a bit of a long shot mate…
pre season
I’m am not gonna stop being Tottenham nor would i put my kids through that coz of the money people. NEVER. Sugar had me doing that once for half a season. I have forgiven myself for it. I let my hate for him become bigger than my love and support for my club. I learned from my mistake. I was front line sugar out
They will when someone offers the right money to retire them both covid has just held up there retirement project
NOT INTRESTED IN THE TEAM JUST STADIUM AS A BIZ
IF THEY ARE NOT RINGING ALREADY.
Slow , cumbersome build up approach play by this dysfunctional unit fills me withe little glee. Off to cheer myself up by watching MOTD 2!
The best grass seed for the pitches and a gym that looks out over the training ground. Nice, but does any of that make international footballers any better? Nope…
