“Maybe they need both” Pundit says Tottenham need more than one new forward

By Bruce Grove -

Although Tottenham signed Carlos Vinicius on loan from Benfica at the start of this season, they have been linked with a move for Danny Ings.

Ideally, they would have to trade one for the other, however, Noel Whelan says they can have them both.

Spurs haven’t used Vinicius so much and there are doubts that they will exercise their option to sign him permanently.

Ings isn’t agreeing to terms on a new contract at Southampton just yet, and he has been linked with a move away from the club.

The Englishman has struggled at a big team before during his stint at Liverpool earlier in his career.

However, the striker is now back in form and among the goals and Whelan says Tottenham are missing his type of player.

He said that the club needs attackers with different qualities that can come in and change the game for them, so signing both players would make sense.

Asked if he thought Spurs could spend the money on Ings instead of Vinicius, Whelan told Football Insider: “They could do that or do they need more? Maybe they need both.

“You look at Manchester United, you look at Chelsea, the options that they have in those centre-forward positions. You can’t turn your nose up at having enough strikers because if one player is out of form, you can go to the other.

“If the game is not going right and you’re not getting the joy you expect, you can turn to the bigger striker – now Vinicius isn’t a bigger striker, he’s someone that leads the line but he’s not a Danny Ings.

“They don’t have a Danny Ings at that football club and I think that’s where the difference is and that’s why it’s sometimes worth having those multiple different options.”
