“Maybe that pressure would help him find his form” Pundit tips struggling Spurs star to join mega-rich club

By Bruce Grove -

Frank McAvennie has tipped Dele Alli to join Newcastle United as he struggles at Tottenham.

The midfielder has been out of favour under the last two Tottenham bosses.

The arrival of Antonio Conte should give him a fresh chance to fight for a place in the Lilywhites’ team.

However, Conte is also a very demanding manager and Alli’s lack of effort already means he will have to work very hard to earn a place in the Spurs starting eleven.

Former West Ham man, McAvennie has now tipped him to secure a move to Newcastle United where he could return to form.

“I think Dele Alli would be the ideal signing for Newcastle,” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“If he went there, there would be nowhere to hide. He would play every game and maybe that pressure would help him find his form.

“He’s not played a minute under Conte so maybe he’s not convinced by him yet.

“Newcastle have this money to spend. Alli might be on his way out.

“If they want Premier League quality players, look no further. He’s brilliant on his day.

“Eddie Howe might have issues with his attitude. But if you can solve those issues, you have one hell of a player on your hands.

“I can see that happening if Alli doesn’t work his way back in at Spurs, which is entirely possible.”

The Boy Hotspur Says

Alli is one of the finest players Spurs have signed in the last few seasons, but the midfielder may have already reached the peak of his career.

He would have benefited from a change of environment if Daniel Levy had agreed to sell or loan him out last season.

A move to an ambitious club like Newcastle will re-energise him and give him a new lease of life.

The Magpies will look to secure quality players in the January transfer window and Spurs would be smart to allow him to join them even on loan for the second half of the season.

Whilst he has moments of flair as I was reminded last week, yes he scored a goal against Palace 5 years ago. A lot of what he did when playing well was done by bring coached on the training pitch. I assume Poch really worked the shadow training with him. Mourinho really took offence with his training attitude as drills like these are key modern football. His application to his training is his way out of his predicament.

I think Dele must have banged his head at some time and forgotten he’s a footballer. Probably on the hair dryer.
