Man Utd move ahead of Tottenham in race to sign player Jose Mourinho covets

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham’s delay in reaching an agreement with Inter Milan over the transfer of Milan Skriniar will see them miss out on signing the defender to a Premier League rival, according to reports.

The Lilywhites have been in the market for a new defender after they lost Jan Vertonghen for free.

Jose Mourinho has targeted a number of defenders but Skriniar is one of his favourite targets.

The Portuguese manager has wanted to sign the Slovakian since he was the manager of Manchester United.

Spurs have told Inter that they want to sign him and the Italians have asked for a swap deal which will involve Tanguy Ndombele.

Spurs have no plans to lose Ndombele this summer and that is holding up their bid to land Skriniar.

CalcioMercato is claiming that the Lilywhites now face serious competition from Manchester United for the signature of the defender and the Red Devils have moved ahead of them.

Ole Gunnar Solkjear’s team is also in the market for a new defender that will become a long term partner to their record signing, Harry Maguire.

Skriniar was one of the untouchables at Inter last summer and they wanted 70 million euros from any team looking to sign him.

However, he is now lost in Antonio Conte’s new system and he has been used sparingly by the former Chelsea manager, his transfer should cost less.

Short of doing a swap deal, it is hard to see how Tottenham can sign Skriniar ahead of United.
