Have You Spotted The Spurs Star Mourinho Has Absolutely Transformed?

By The Boy -

For me, Eric Dier has been another example of Pochettino’s limitations as a manager – these limitations may be a figment of my imagination, or they may be playing a part in the Argentine’s inability to secure another position since Tottenham sacked him. Time will tell. Right now, it looks like Mauricio is holding out for a position that doesn’t exist beyond his imagination.

There is something about utility players in general that makes me ask why nobody has found a home for the man in question. Many players can offer more than one role to a side, but few have been as vaguely labelled as Dier has in his time at Spurs. In Dier’s last 6 games as Left Centre Back, the 26-year-old has played arguably some of his most consistent football since he joined us.

Compared to last season’s numbers, Dier’s ‘successful actions’ (which is a naturally broad statistic) has crept up from 71.3% to in those last six games, to 77%.

Dier’s passing accuracy has always been decent, but since José found him a settled home, his numbers have gone through the roof. Just 3 misplaced passes against Crystal Palace.

Against Manchester United, Dier hit a 77% success rate, yet his all-time average is 55.2% – the 77% wasn’t atypical of his recent games, he also hit 80% in two other matches in this discipline.

In short, Mourinho has morphed Eric into the player that the Portuguese wanted to sign for Manchester United.

Well, how about that.

Alasdair gold is saying the final deal was only 13.4 million with no add ons… That is a bargain.. Only trent alexander arnold was better last season looking at stats.

Money has changed so much in ten years though, most players are worth three times what they were five years ago.. If aurier is worth 20 than Doherty is worth 35 or 40 in my opinion.

Have to agree money wise.. Apparently we wouldn’t sell them aurier because we value him higher at around 20 mil. 😳. As Leslie says below the lad has been there a long time, is in his prime and at his age wolves have to let him go really.. I’m suprised the goons didn’t go for him. He was a HUGE arsenal fan a year or so ago.

Maybe he will be replacing Mane at Liverpool,Barcelona are interested in him.

I want aurier to stay. Knows the drill and is well well liked. Don’t want two new right backs. Mek serge challenge the new guy. Yes he’s got a mistake in him but he can still play.

Rumours in today’s papers that Liverpool are keen on Watford’s Sarr. I know he plays in a position where we are well stocked, but I think he is a superstar in the making and the natural successor to Mane. I would hate to see him go to Liverpool but it would be great business for them and a bad miss for us.

Doherty’s arrival then begs the question – Is Aurier’s departure nigh? If so,Interpol should have an arrest warrant out for Levy, after another mugging.

This deal for Doherty wasn’t about the money,he played for them for ten years and they weren’t going to stand in the players way of getting the chance to move to a bigger club playing in Europe under Jose. They have made a big profit on the player considering he only cost them £75,000. His last club in Ireland are getting between £1.2m – £1.5m in sell on fee.

It doesn’t look a good deal for Wolves at all. Also, I didn’t think that their Chinese owners, Fosun, were short of money, but you never can tell these days.

I would keep lamela too unless someone better comes in… If he can stay fit and he seems to be now remarkably… His free kick the other day was sublime.. Much better than watching Tintin or Lo celso or even Kane constantly ballooning the ball over the bar or wide…Lamela is the only true dead ball specialist that we have…. Lo celso can take a corner, but his free kicks on goal are hopeless.

He can defend well. He is good at arriving in the box to poach goals which is rare for a full back.. His crossing is dodgy.. Good signing, good price.. Some wolves fans are angry he’s only 16 million odd, they want double or ten mil more. Most fans see selling him is a necessary evil because they need to strengthen elsewhere.

Agree with the top 6. Would retain Winks as a squad player as has PL experience plus is home grown (granted so is White, less the PL experience bit).

Unfortunately the mistake Dier did against Utd ,gave the referee a decision to make awarding Pogba the penalty which denied us the three points.

I was a bit surprised that Wolves agreed to sell Doherty to us. £15 mill wasn’t a great price for them and they now have to find a replacement with the season starting shortly. I think we can see the type of side Mourinho is trying to put together. Let’s hope we are successful as I doubt the football is going to be scintillating but we’ll be difficult to beat.

Where has LoCelso been during these pre season matches? Is he injured. If only he and Nodembele could come through together this season. Play them further forward.Kane, Son, Moura Ali,Lo Celso and Nodembele plus another striker should with Docherty marauding wide down the right and dragging defences apart give them space to work in. We need a left back in the same mould as Docherty ripping the left flank apart as well.

Nothing has changed my mind over pre season accept maybe Alli, he had that look so maybe worth another season…Levy needs to shift:
CCV
Foyth
Oreo
Lamela (will need replacing)
Sissoko
Rose
Winks (give White a chance)

I’m not a huge Moura fan either but would keep him for now..

Dier made some lovely diagonal passes yesterday, I still worry about his ability to make silly mistakes giving the ball away but hopefully he will grow into that position..

Pierre and Docherty look the type of players who will leave it all out there when wearing the shirt. Similar to Nobodyjustbelly😢.They are the type of players that opponents hate playing against and the type of players that our nice boys will find no hiding place from during matches. Two solid team players. We desperately need an upgrade at left wing back as well.If we are dumping Nobodyjustbelly then a quality attacking midfielder and striker is needed as well.

Personally I think the best Captains operate from Defence/midfield when Kane ought simply focus on what he is good at which is scoring goals. Never saw Kane as a natural leader for both club and country and still don’t!

Panama Paul

Hope that doesn’t upset anyone who wants HK as captain. However, I think the permanent captaincy would be detrimental for him, placing a greater burden on him when things are’t going well, than he has to carry now. I do think it affects his natural game.

I am happy for Eric as he has looked pretty miserable when playing under Poch last season.I think anyone working in a job or role they don’t enjoy could understand that. Clearly not comfortable with a ball playing DM role. Agree with comment below about captaincy – if not him, then PEH please.

Anybody bored enough to have compiled them could have presented a mile-high list of statistics showing myriad ways in which individual players and the team were improved by the previous coach, up until the time he started pleading for a refresh.

I suspect such statistics would have been metaphorically torched on this site.
