Gareth Bale spent seven years at Real Madrid before returning to Tottenham on loan this summer.
The attacker won everything in club football with the Spanish side, yet he was one of their most underappreciated players.
Instead of being valued, he was more often than not, insulted by the club’s fans.
He remained with them, but Zinedine Zidane became the manager and didn’t want him in the team.
Yet Bale came off the bench to score twice and earn Real Madrid the 2018 Champions League trophy after a win over Liverpool.
He leaves the club with not much respect from its fans and the club itself, but Luka Modric, who also played with Bale at Tottenham has hailed his former teammate and claimed that the Welshman did a lot for the Spanish side.
“I’ve been with Gareth for a long time, almost my entire professional career,” Modric told COPE radio. “He’s a great guy… I think that what people have said about him lately is unfair.
“Maybe they judge him for the last few years, but what Gareth did at Madrid is impressive. For me, he’ll always be remembered as a player who has done a lot for the team and the club.”
Spurs will hope that Bale will be in top form for them when he finally returns to playing for the club, hopefully after the international break.
