Liverpool eyeing a surprise move for out of favour Tottenham man

By Bruce Grove -

The Independent claims that Liverpool is eyeing a deadline day move for Tottenham goalkeeper, Paolo Gazzaniga as a backup to Adrian.

The Reds will be without their first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker for the next six weeks and Adrian hasn’t started well in goal.

The Spaniard was at fault for the first goal which set the tone for the game as Liverpool were beaten 7-2 by Aston Villa yesterday.

It was a hit to Adrian’s reputation and the Reds don’t exactly have another senior goalkeeper in the wings should he become unavailable to play now that Alisson is out.

Gazzaniga had been Spurs’ second choice previously and he played several games when Hugo Lloris was injured last season.

However, he has seen the club bring in Joe Hart in this transfer window and that has pushed him further down the pecking order.

He is unlikely to have the chance to play again this season and it might be best for him to leave.

The report doesn’t say if the Reds want to sign him permanently, but if that happens, he will find himself as the club’s third-choice again when Alisson returns, unless he works hard enough to be the second choice ahead of Adrian.
