Latest: Tottenham had ‘officials in attendance’ to watch the player that could address one key issue for Conte

Tottenham Hotspurs are monitoring Borussia Dortmund full-back Joe Scally.

According to 90min, Spurs had ‘officials in attendance’ to watch Borussia Monchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund to keep a ‘watchful eye’ on Monchengladbach full-back Joe Scally.

Scally has played in every Bundesliga game this season, scoring once. His outstanding performances for manager Daniel Farke’s team have earned him a call-up to the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

The US international has been named in manager Gregg Berhalter’s 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, but he is unlikely to start ahead of Sergino Dest.

A move for Joe does seem to be unlikely despite the reports considering that Spurs have just in the summer invested in a young right-back in Djed Spence, signing him from Middlesbrough for £20million.

The wing-backs play a huge role in Conte’s system and while the left wing-back position might not be perfect, the real issue is at right wing-back, where Emerson, Spence, and Doherty are competing for the position.

Matt Doherty earned his spot as the first choice right wing-back last season after a blistering run of form in which he scored two goals and notched three assists in six games, but his season was cut short due to an injury suffered against Aston Villa and he hasn’t been the same since then.

Much was said regarding Spence when he was signed with Conte publicly admitting that he was not his signing but rather the club’s preference. He has not been provided any opportunity by the Italian who has preferred to stick with Emerson Royal as his first-choice right-back despite his poor form.

If Spurs do make a move for Scally, it would mean the Italian doesn’t regard Spence and that the young English full-back might not have a future at the club.

The report from 90min also states that Spurs officials were also in attendance to watch Marcus Thuram and Youssoufa Moukoko, both of whom are linked with a move to the North London club.
