Latest: Antonio Conte has ‘spoken directly’ with Serie A star over a January move – Spurs are ready to make a move

Antonio Conte wants to sign Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij in the January transfer window according to CMW,

The report states that the Tottenham manager has ‘spoken directly with the Dutchman’ about a January move.

De Vrij’s contract at Inter expires at the end of the season, and his agent intends to hold talks with the club about a new contract, according to CMW. The report also adds that in case they fail to reach an agreement, Tottenham are ready to move in to sign the defender.

Spurs’ interest in the defender was previously reported by Football Insider. According to them, the player has been told by the club that he will be offered a new contract, but no talks have taken place, leaving his future at the club uncertain. It goes on to say that because he will be a free agent next summer, he will be available at a ‘knockdown price’ in January, which has piqued the interest of his Premier League suitors, including Tottenham.

Spurs signed Cristian Romero and Clement Lenglet in the summer transfer window to bolster their defense, and they could sign another reinforcement in de Vrij as early as January.

De Vrij, 30, is a title-winning center-back with 452 senior appearances for Inter, Lazio, and Feyenoord and will no doubt be a valuable addition to Conte’s team and the Italian ‘regards him‘ highly.

The Dutchman is also part of Louis Van Gaal’s 26-man Netherlands squad and will get the opportunity to play for his country at the upcoming World Cup.

He can play in a back three or a flat back four and will be an upgrade over any of Tottenham’s current center-backs.
